Did anyone watch the Australian F1 qualifying last night? I DVR'd it and watched it today and all I can say is what a cluster ***k!

In short, it resulted in way fewer cars on the track with lots of time still in the sessions:

Formula One has been going downhill since the 2005 Grand Prix in the USA.

Formula One cars should not be concerned with Fuel Economy! Now this? What the **** are they doing?

My god I wanted to puke. This is possibly one of the worst changes they have made. Reports are that there is an emergency meeting of Team Principals Sunday morning to make immediate changes to the rules before Bahrain.

4 min left in Q3 and everyone is already out of the cars!? These changes were supposed to keep more cars on track for the fans and did the exact opposite.

I love how the FIA claims they make these changes for the fans meanwhile every fan I know hates the changes. Do they ever ask the actual fans?

Euro, the downhill slide didn't start at the 2005 US GP. It was a one off race due to a bad rule that was abolished the following year. I was at the 05 GP at Indy, and in 06 and 07 as well as Austin in 2012. F1 pooped the bed in 2009 when they began restricting aero, limiting engines and went to a single tire supplier. 2006 2006 and 2008 were super exciting years. Since then for the most part they were one hourse races. 2010 and 2012 were half way exciting but the rest has been shit unless you are an RBR or a Merc fan. I'm not, I bleed Rosso Corsa. ;-)

Horrible. They need to fix it asap. As far as order: Ham, Ros, Vet. Just like last year. Anyway, still can't wait for the race tomorrow. I really hope Haas can compete for some points. I don't think today's qualifying order is indicative of their chances. Both Gut and Gro ran out of time on their hot laps. So dumb!

I was also at the USGP in Indy of '05. Also made it to Austin in 2013. I enjoyed one of the GPs I was at, I'll just say that much.

I will say this, my favorite driver is Raikkonen. I've now been to two GPs while he was in the sport, and still haven't seen him compete (drove for McLaren in 05 and was out of USGP and Brazil in 13 with a back injury). SMH

Rubbish! Apparently a change back to something similar to last year is coming next race. Haas didn't get a really good shake with it. They probably should be higher.

My cat is named Kimi ;-) hands down favorite driver of all time. When he came back to Ferrari it was like Christmas morning all over again. My dream was to see him race a red car in Spa. I don't think I'll get that chance

I was able to get his autograph on a photo I took of him at turn 9 in Indy during FP2. At least I hope it's really his. Lol. Either way, it's on my wall.

I DVR'd the race last night (US time) and watched it this morning. No spoilers here, I will just say it was eventful!

Looking forward to Bahain in 2 weeks!

Alex, I too have always liked Kimi, especially when he was younger and the "bad boy" of F1.

2015 quali rules to be implemented at Bahrain.

http://www.autoblog.com/2016/03/20/f1-team-vote-revert-qualifying/

It was an interesting race. Things sure seem to work out for Mercedes, don’t they? Hamilton was stuck in traffic and couldn’t get by Verstapen (I did love hearing Hamilton cry when he couldn’t get by the 18 year old) but was able to get by him and Vettel thanks to bad pitstops by STR and Ferrari/ Seb should have had 2nd easy, and possibly 1st had Ferrari not screwed the pooch on their tire strategy.

And once again, poor Kimi can’t buy a break! I can just hear the analysists now: "Look how many more points Seb has than Kimi." But they forget to mention how many car related DNFs Kimi has to deal with. Don't get me wrong, I like Seb and when he does well the team does well... just reminds me of the Webber days when if anything bad happened to an RBR car, it was always Webbers.

Anyway, I think had things gone the way they ‘should have’ it would’ve been Seb, Ros, Rai, Ric, Ham. But, of course, the stars align for Merc and they already have a stranglehold on the constructors. Here we go again…

Grosjean gives Haas 8 points! Fantastic for an opening race!!! So stoked that they are doing well! Possibly could’ve had both cars in the points if it weren’t for the stupid qualifying rules as both Haas cars got caught out and eliminated before they could finished their hot laps.

Glad Alonso is okay. Can’t believe he walked away from that accident! Holy hell.

Kind of pulling for Renault. Really like their livery. Reminds me of the old Jordan cars which were my among favorite back in the day. Kimi and Jarno were my drivers.

I was screaming at the TV when I saw SuperSofts on the Ferraris after the Red Flag. In hind sight, maybe going Medium till the end would have been better, but I feel the Mercs would have better pace on the medium tire and holding them back for 40 laps would have been hard, even for Seb.

Going SS to Soft was a good idea, but the problem was that the temps fell and the 1-1.5 second advantage the SS has over the Medium tire disappeared so Seb was unable to build a gap and then had to look after the tire in order to make em last long enough to take a set of Softs. If there was 4 more laps and he didnt overcook it into T15 with 2 laps to go, he would have gotten Hamilton for 2nd but Ros was way too far up the road to make it up.

Lets see what Bahrain brings

There is no excuse for SV not winning. The Ferrari bosses in the pits screwed up big time.

Not to mention his [Seb's] 5-6ish second pit stop! I can't recall the exact time it took but it was way up there. Someone forgot to tell the left-front guy lefty-loosey! Ugh...

I still can’t understand Ferrari always waiting to pit Kimi. They’ll pit Seb but leave Kimi out there for three extra laps, meanwhile he’s losing three seconds per lap to guys with new tires. They seem to do this to him a lot, and rarely does it result is some sort of ‘one-less-stop’ strategy. Not that it mattered yesterday. :(

Yes, 5 second pit-stop when they typically handle it in 2.5s. Two and a half seconds isn't that east to make up on track

Lefty Loosey? Was it left front or right front? The threads are different from side to side to ensure the wheel nut tightens itself under normal forward tire rotation, that's why the wheel nuts are red on the left and blue on the right.

LEft-front, so looks like it'd be standard threads. As the wheel would accelerate counter clockwise, the nut would only tighten.

On that note, I didn't know that. Makes sense.

Anyone have any decent photos from their ventures to a GP?

Here is one I took at the USGP in 2005. I was only there on Sunday. This was during the warm-up laps and even though my camera was a POS, I am 99.9% sure those are two McLarens with a Toyota between them. Therefore, I have seen Kimi drive an F1 car... just not compete.:rolleyes::(

Yes, those are West McLarens with a Toyota in between.

I took over 2000 photos at 06, 07 and 12 but only have a couple "processed" and uploaded to Photobucket.

Not quite sure what kind of reverse polish notation they were using when debating the whole we will get cars off the track every 90 seconds = more cars on the track and more excitement for the fans. Maybe they thought they were in opposite land. Guess they switched from a slow build up at the beginning of Q session to a dud at the end. I liked the idea that they had to get on with business instead of using the first half of a Q session as a warm up. If they could get the scramble up front and keep it going through the end somehow, it would make watching the Q more fun. Their execution however left a LOT to be desired.

WRT Alonso, I didnt even realise the black blob behind Gutierez's car was Alonso's McLaren until I saw him worm his way out from under it. All I know that Alonso better be out buying the engineers who designed and tested that cockpit some seriously hot hookers. Pretty amazing to see him walk away form that with out any really serious injuries.

Happy to see HAAS score points their first race. Hope the trend continues and they fare well.

I'm with Alex. I thought my head was going to explode when I saw the supersofts on his car.

I never followed NASCAR. I knew Gene Haas had a successful racing team, but I mostly new him from Haas Automation. I did a production facility for a medical device manufacturer, an 8000sf room with 24 Haas 4 axis machines. All I wanted to do was upload a solid works model of an AR lower, throw some aluminum in there and watch! lol

I don't think Newman/Haas(Carl) and Haas(Gene) are related.

Qualifying really needs to go back to the the way it was. Honestly, if it weren't for Haas F1, I probably wouldn't watch too much F1 this season. I haven't had a team/driver to follow since Jordan left.

I've been following Super GT the past few years and attended the 1000k race at Suzuka the past two. Races are more interesting than F1 and the mix of cars is pretty cool too.

It was a tiny bit better but still terrible.

The meeting today ended with a new agregate quali format taking the time of the two best laps from each Q session. We will find out what will happen after another meeting on Thursday.

FIA refuses to go back to the 2006 to 2015 qualifying format.
