New upper sounds extremely loud

Purchased a new 1/9 SS 16" upper and sounds extremely loud compared to other 16" barrels ,
Does the muzzel / flash suppresser make a lot of difference .
Haven't tried changing out to try if it does

The muzzle device makes a huge difference. What do you have on it currently?

ETA: Brakes and comps will be louder than flash hiders.

Muzzle brakes are the worst. I remember a bushmaster y-comp I had to get rid of because it was just too annoying to others on the line.

Yes, the muzzle device can make a huge difference in noise and blast. What kind does it have?

Also - were you shooting it side by side with something that sounds quieter? I ask because some other factors can also make a huge difference:
1) Ear protection that seems like it's on or in but isn't on quite right;
2) A range with sheetmetal overhead cover vs. being out in a field with nothing around;
3) A range where the muzzle is just past that overhead cover vs. one where the overhead cover extends several feet forward of the firing line; and
4) To a lesser extent, ground and atmospheric conditions - hard packed dirt vs. loose vs. snow, a windy dry day vs. a still humid day, etc.
