View Full Version : Low Profile M&P Baseplates?

I've been browsing google for a solution, and since there does't seem to be one, here we go;

I would like to find some lower profile base plates for my fullsize M&P9 magazines.
Backstory, I CCW a M&P9C, with fullsize magazines as reloads. I also use the BFG ten-speed double-pistol belt pouch- switched from a kydex carrier, and really don't see myself going back.
I also want the ability to carry the fullsize magazines in a double-pistol pouch on a chest rig or PC.

The problem is, the extra "tab" that the factory baseplates have sticking off the front causes the magazines to be unable to sit next to each other if the pouch places the mags close together- either they just plain can't fit side-by-side, or the tabs lock up over top of each other, or you have to reverse them back to back, which isn't ideal.

Here's what I want to find- a basic baseplate that is "flush" with the body of the magazine, or at least no more than a Glock mag baseplate protrudes. I do not require a + extension, and frankly I'd like to get into this a little cheaper anyway.
But for reference, picture an Arredondo mag extension, and that's about the profile I'm looking for.

Id there anything out there like this?
I have half a mind just to hacksaw & file the factory plates down.... :fie:

I know they're pricey, but I've been beating the snot out of my aluminum 10-8 M&P baseplates for several years now. They don't snag on each other with the "lip", and run well in every mag pouch I've tried. They now make a non-aluminum version as well.

The Apex manufactured version of the 10-8 base pads would be my vote. Excellent setup.

Those look promising- so the top link would be for the single Alum. version, and the 4 Apex set are the plastic/polymer ones?

Honestly, if those don;t work, I may go straight for the XTC pad. Pricey as hell, but the frustration with factory plates has reached the point where it might be justifiable...

You're correct about the links. I use the aluminum ones, the polymer type didn't exist back then.

The XTC baseplates were specifically made to work with Hilton's magwell. But with the added length, you don't gain any extra capacity.

If I were you, I'd try the polymer 4-pack. Not a lot of dough, and I bet they'll work for you. I'm sticking with my alum. ones because I'm already committed.

Good luck!

Why are you afraid? It's really not difficult. I used a compound miter saw, for initial cut. 120 grit paper for shaping, and 1000 for final smoothing.

It's not pretty, but neither are the ones you buy. It does work though. I seriously spent about 10 mins total time on these:

Mega, those look good. Nice to see the theory can work.

Dumb question of the week- did you take the plates off, or leave them on when you did the initial cut?

Took them off.

Or use the flat basepads from the compact m&p. When/if SSS has them in stock, they're $2 apiece

Couldn't you just order the compact baseplates directly from S&W?

Right now, half of mine are 'hack sawed', and the other half are compact.
