Alright I know it's expensive and completely impractical for anything but a range toy, but I kind of want one...

Anyone have one or experience with one? Most of my research seems to say that it prefers 357 loads and even with the included lighter spring shooting 38 special is intermittent at best. Mags are very expensive but available, and it seems build quality is quite good.

Thanks for any input.

I have an attraction to them too. The only advantage I can see to one is I can reload .38/.357 slightly cheaper than I can .45 auto.

I shot one a couple of years ago, big beefy pistol. Recoil was nice considering we were shooting full power 125s and 158s out of it. A few cartridge types were not liked by the gun but overall it was nice shooting. The fit and finish on the pistol was good. I was in the market for one but I found a smith model 28 HP for $1000 less and that was that.

Why not a 10mm
Pros:
-Regular format 1911
-works better
-can run a .357 Sig, 9x25 dillon, or .40 S&W barrel
-more ft lbs and can do heavier bullets

A Coonan .357 is on my (long) list of guns to buy the day after I win the lotto.

This will make you want to buy one:

Agreed on the 10mm option, it would be a great platform for that cartridge. It would be a 1911 style smith 1006. The 10mm is a hand loaders dream and is gaining popularity again.

Thanks for the info guys.

Admittedly I hadn't considered the 10mm - I've never even shot one. Always figured if I got one it would be a Glock 20.

Any particular brand you guys would recommend checking out?

For 10mm Glock 20 first and foremost, then, if you want to spend some money, the Colt Delta Elite is a classic.

Or if you can find one.......the S&W 10mm series. Those guns are built like tanks and have supported chambers and an integral feed ramp. Agreed on Glock....great value. The Colt offering is very nice....a classic.
