View Full Version : Anyone try the MOE SL-K yet?

I was just about to order one yesterday; I have the full size MOE SL, and like it a lot. Although one thing caught my attention as I was about to order.

One of the product reviews mentioned that the SL-K may be lacking the "leaf springs that keep the stock tight with the buffer tube".

I know the regular SL uses some kind of springs on the inside that give it a tight fit with the buffer tube. Does the SL-K not have some of the features that the full size SL has?

I have two. I like them and will keep them.
What I don't like:
*They have no QD built in. It cost me $17 per stock to get QD. Not an issue if you don't need it.
*They DO NOT have the SL leaf springs. Magpul cheaped out on that with these. That said, they are still fairly tight. I'd have ditched them if they were wobbly sumbishes. They are tight enough on my VLTOR tubes. YMMV? I've never heard anybody complain they were loose.

Hope this helps. I like em.

I love mine so far. No wobble. Using it on a midlength KISS-ish carbine. Don't need the qd aspect on this particular rifle used the footman's loop.

Have one on an 11.5 and like it enough to order another when I find a black one with free shipping.

Fits tight on my tube (vltor)

Thanks everyone. This will be for a KAC lower. I was worried about the wobble; I know it's not a huge problem, and I won't throw a stock away because of it. But if I could avoid a wobbly stock before putting money down I try to.

I think the lwrc compact is ideal for an sbr but it does wobble. The normal slimline on my sbr now is rock solid

Pics of the K on your sbr ^^?

I don't love mine, comparing it to the standard SL. I do prefer it over the BCM stock which I really didn't love.

Biggest complaint is I would like the shoulder pad/part to go lower. I get its short intentionally, but I'd like it longer.

Lastly not a real knock to the SL-K, but I use a lot of A5 receiver extensions and the SL closes all the way on those, which is another + of the SL for me.

I would not purchase another SL-K, it is not on a gun of mine currently, I put Magpul MOE stocks back on the guns I tried this on. Again this is my subjective and personal opinion.

^^ Why did you even try an SL-K? The SL is everything you're asking for.
That's kinda the whole point.

Can someone please say if this sl-k reduces oal/lop vs the bcm stock?? Assuming same buffer tube and position of course.

If used / collapsed on a mil-spec tube, the SL-K will be shorter than the BCM. The BCM is basically an SL.

ok, i do not have a SL stock either, but i thought the SL was quite a bit longer than the BCM, like an inch.

The SL is longer and will close all the way on an A5 extension. The BCM does not.

I'm digging my SL-K, but I have no experience on the normal SL. It's smaller and lighter, while still having a good cheek weld, and I have zero rattle on my tube.

I would have preferred a horizontal mounting platform for threading a sling through, but the vertical one does well enough.

I think I'm going to have to do the Velcro trick on both of mine. They both seem to be loosening up just a slight bit. I had em at the range today doing some 'precision' shooting trying to sight in some optics and both of them were moving around on me a lot. Enough to be irritating. Only two clicks out from fully closed. I should've just grabged an SL or CTR or something while I was sighting them in. Now I know. Irks me Magpul skipped out on the leaf spring stuff on these. I would've paid more money for the same features as the SL. Oh well.

I never understood the point of the short toe stocks.

When things start to get in a hurry they want to go right over my shoulder and I wind up mounting the gun on my chest with my neck all scrunched down to get a sight picture.

Goofy accessory.

The buffer tube shouldn't be over your shoulder if you want to control the recoil properly, so that's a training issue.

I've never felt the SL-Ks provide too little shoulder purchase, or else they'd be gone. But that's me.

Train your ass off and one day you might mount the gun not quite perfect. Maybe.

Funny you say this and it reminds me of something. I used to train folks, predominantly on employing/using ARs. One thing I saw SO MANY times was people, with M4 variants, putting the rifle over their shoulder. Almost always, it was people who were trained on M16 variants. Something about how they used them with body armor. It was an easy habit to break but the first few times I saw it I was scratching my head.

A2 stock, plate carrier, ACOG is doable.... But only one thing at a time!

This was my understanding, not owning a SL or sl-k, is the SL-K shorter than the BCM gunfighter?

I just got an SL-K and I like it so far. Very light and minimalist.

FOR THE EMPEROR.

I just got one too, it's just fine on the only carbine-length receiver extension I own. If I didn't have a bunch of A5s with MOE SL stocks, I'd buy more SL-K models, because they are compact and light.

Same here, I am chock full of A5's. The AKs will get SL-K's.
