I need a bag for my 6940. Something black, simple, and high quality. Nothing tacticool. I don't want to look like some dork walking in to the local indoor gun range. Don't want to walk in to the range at port arms or have it slung over a shoulder either. I like to fly under the radar. I don't even like the name "Tactical Gear" for this forum. I just want "gear".

What/where do you recommend?

I like to do a door breach and then run into my local indoor range screaming, "Contact right! Engaging! Clear!"

That always impresses the staff.

If you seperate the upper and lower many bags will work

I love my Ares Armor LPA Bag. Found one here, http://www.lapolicegear.com/aa-lpa-bag.html. I've had mine for a few years and that's the 1st web site that popped up when I searched for it...

They aren't cheap and you have to break the rifle down but it's a really nice, well made bag.

Tactical Tailor - Single rifle bag. American made, tough as an overcooked steak, and every hipster will think you're carrying an electric guitar. I have two and have not babied them. Both have had zero issues with fasteners or cordura and are still running strong.

(True story, skinny jeans douche in the elevator once asked, "what do you play?" I responded, "BCM mid-length with a Fortis Rev right now..." He'd never heard of them.)

here you go - under 30.00 bucks - http://www.amazon.com/Bulldog-Cases-Ultra-Compact-Discreet/dp/B0048KEWXY

You will have to separate the upper and lower.

I have two of them, they hold together pretty good.

Many, many options once you separate upper from lower. I use a "discreet" case and it is very portable and great for precisely the purpose of carrying it to a range.

Here's the kind of case I'm describing. Hard to beat this for only $25:

Padded gig bags are $20 at Sam Ashe, Guitar Center, etc. Most have a large - is gear pocket for mags. These have been around long before hip wannabes.

Another Bulldog case here. I use one and it's great. Just a simple rectangle with two square pouches on the front, looks like a keyboard case or a soft/hard gig bag.

Tennis racquet bag from any sporting goods store.

Bling your gun all to hell, but your bag should be as boring as possible. One's eyelids should begin to droop when looking at it.

The Bulldog cases are pretty low cost, functional for breaking down. They are not 1000 Cordura and US made so may not meet your reference for high quality. I generally use a full size bag for my 6940 not broken down.

Last night I noticed I have three discreet tactical bags that look not all that discreet. I have a Sneaky Bag - they created much of the market and have been shamelessly copied by 5.11, Blackhawk and the like in lower quality materials. If you want over built discretion, Sneaky Bags is the best I have tried. Less discreet is London Bridge, TAG and other gear houses, all of which have complete M4 cases.

Want to roll real big? Arcteryx Khard 30. You will have exquisite design and quality, plus $400 invested.

Other folks mentioned tennis bags. I have done that and have found them too lightly constructed, so had to make reinforcements with GI sleeping mat. I also have three tennis cases in the basement.... Great for AKs.

Last consideration is a short camera tripod bag. I have Manfrottos that cost like an AR and there is usually decent options available.
