View Full Version : Belts for those of us who dress normal?

I have a beltman belt, but I've been killing it in the gym and its already too loose for OWB carry.

I'm looking to get a new one but I'd like something thinner than the beltman belt that I have. It is almost 3/8" thick. I would like it to remain rigid enough to support OWB carry, however.

Are there any leather belts for people who wear normal clothing that run on the thin side? (Not waist thin, but actual thinness of the belt)

Quickest option is go to Walmart.

In the men's belt section they have both leather and nylon belts that are pretty thin but reinforced.

These are basically regular sized belts that are made to be cheap work belts.

All the regular belts there are total crap,
But these are actually good cheap gun belts.

Again,
Make sure you are grabbing the ones made for work belts.

This will hold you until you figure out which 100$ galco stiff dress belt or whatever you are going to go with.

Edit-
While there grab all the WWB range packs for 9, 40, 45, etc.
Check for 22.
Get some pictures for the people of Walmart site.

Enjoy how many months or so go by until you have to step foot in a Walmart again.

Take a look at ABetterBeltUSA I have a RoughRider IWB carry reinforced belt ( 1/4") that is incredibly sturdy. I've worn it with my Sig 229 OWB in two classes and could not imagine needing anything stiffer. They offer non reinforced, IWB or OWB reinforced, along with several belt options.

Galco makes good belts. I've been wearing one for 5 or more years and I'm just now thinking about replacing it.

I went to a western store and got a good thick leather belt.

Honestly, why not get one made? It's an investment piece of the wardrobe, like a tux or a navy blazer. You'll use a good one for 10 years.

You do have a tux and a wool/silk or cashmere navy blazer, right?

The nice thing about a custom belt is that you can pick out the hardware. I have one that was made by Ray Cory before he retired. Amazing belt, and he put it together with screws so I can change out the buckle to match different clothing choices.

If you are going to wear a pair of Edmund Allen shoes with a nice sport coat, don't eff it up with a belt from Wally World.

Ray is retired, but his business is being carried on by a new family at Lobo Gun Leather.

Someone else I can personally recommend is Jim Ryan at JRC holsters. The man has made holsters for me that remind me of a bespoke cobbler on Jermyn Street in London.

His holsters are superb. The retention of Kydex, with the speed and elegance of leather.

A Better Belt USA. Just tell Mike that you want it for a dress belt and he'll make em thinner. His customer service is great!

Done this a bunch of times for gifts for friends needing a high quality dress belt.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm sorting through them to see what they have and what works.

Why do all leather belt guys have the same website format though?

You might want to look at the "Hanks Amish Belts" from Hanks Clothing. They make a belt specifically for CCW. I have been wearing the same belt for over two years now with a Glock G30S OWB. It is stiff enough for daily carry but still very comfortable. I'm 6'0" and 250+/- (depending what the wife cooks for dinner that day) and I love mine. As I remember the price was very reasonable but sorry, I couldn't find the invoice. If it ever needs replacement I would definitely get another.

Mene Gene Leather. They are great quality and with the built in inserts make the belt very supportive. They have a ton of options on style, buckles, and sizes. The belts can be as dressy as your want or not as you desire.

I have one in black what I wear with suits and dress pants. I will be getting another in brown in the near future.

I have a black one from Crossbreed that came as a package with one of my holsters. It's simple, and I've worn it with everything from shorts to suit pants (I have a 32" waist for reference). Plain black seems to go with almost everything.

I gave up trying to do a leather belt, they all looked too old fashioned for me (I'm mid 30s and try to dress like all the other yuppies in my town). That's flip flops and jeans with an untucked button down... I use the 5.11 trainer belts since my belt never shows, I wear the same thing to church on Sundays too. I bought one of their leather belts but it scratched way to easily and looks like complete crap now so I never wear it anymore. But it was the most stylish I was able to find... I was looking for a darker brown one at the time but if you get anything out of this post it is to not buy 5.11 leather belts because they will look like crap the first time you slide your holster over it...

Ted Blocker N belt, it's been my belt for twenty years. Great support and not tactical looking

Feels like leather, looks like leather, way stiffer than leather, impervious to water/sweat/salt unlike leather.
I've had one for 4+ years, worn every day. Feels and looks brand new. With how much I sweat, I go through leather belts like it ain't no thang.

Still in love with a Don Hume belt after nearly 15 years. I was just polishing it today - good leather care can really extend the life of a quality item.

I have tried Belt Man and the cheesy Blackhawk plastic belts. Don Hume is the right mix between comfort while being able to hold up a AIWB.

I've been using a 5.11 1.5" casual leather belt. It's worked well with most IWB holsters I've used. It also has plastic permastiff inserts in between the leather to keep the belt nice and stiff at your carry points.

I've been wearing Galco SB2s for a number of years now. They have much more support than the nylon "instructor" type belts, but look nice enough to wear to the office with slacks. Mine is worn 365 days a year, and generally needs replacing about every 3 years just due to the leather getting scuffed and me needing to look nice Monday through Friday.

They come in dark brown, camel, and black.

Can beltman not cut the belt down and add a few more holes? Obviously they cant make it longer, but they should be able to shorten it up a bit.

Really surprised nobody has mentioned Bullhide Belts. They've got a lot of options and I've been wearing one daily for a little over a year. The one I have is about 1/4" thick and does a really good job OWB or IWB.
