View Full Version : Anything wrong with mixing and matching parts?

Hi guys,

Here's my current setup:

DDM4 lower with Geiselle SSA-E
DDM4 upper
DD M16 profile BCG
BCM KMR rail
BCM BFH ELW 16" barrel

What I'm wondering, is there anything wrong with mixing and matching quality parts?
Would an all-DD or all-BCM rifle be more accurate or reliable? The DD upper is mil-spec and has M4 ramps, and the BCM barrel is mil-spec and has M4 feedramps.

I really have not shot it all that much, but I'm having some buyer's remorse, thinking I maybe should have gotten either the DDM4V11LW or the BCM Recce 16 BFH.

Anything realistically to worry about?

Shoot the rifle. If it's reliable, there's your answer.

Mixing parts is no harm. I have an Olympic upper, spinta barrel and bcg, spikes lower, RRA LPK, Rainier Gas tube, utg buffer tube, colt spring, no name buffer? I wont keep going, but trust me, youre fine to mismatch parts!

Don't question it, sounds like you've got yourself a fine rifle.

mixing and matching parts is the whole point of having ARs. it's an erector set that fire bullets.

You have some great quality parts in your rifle. It doesn't get much better. Shoot it, rely on it, and enjoy it.

There's not issue with mixing and matching parts from different sources, so long as the parts are made to spec. You're selection of parts would not cause any issues for you.

Unless you have OCD. Then it may bother you. But so long as everything is assembled correctly, you shouldn't have any issues.

Awesome. Thanks. I'll just go and shoot the snot out of it.

It was assembled by a qualified armorer at a local range/proshop, so it should be good to go. I've had him work on other guns for me (handguns and some bolt actions) and I trust his work.

The only thing I would do is check the headspace. I would not expect an issue as both DD and BCM are good companies but I'd still check unless the guy who assembled your rifle already did. If he did, than bang on.

I think it's safe to say that most of us do a little mix an match from time to time. sounds like you have a nice weapon. Now get out and shoot it - then report back. :)

I've used spare/used parts and mixed up a few rifles with no issues. As long as they are quality parts, they should all be in spec. The only thing I would do is check headspace and shoot the snot out of it.

Ha, I mixed and matched an HBAR config AR in that Russian -39mm round and she prints sub-MOA to 200Y (using premium SP ammo). So I'd opine the mix/match can work 'OK' ...

Zeroed it last night at an indoor range to get the windage on.
30 rounds, no issues.
Real test will be Saturday, taking out to the outdoor range, shooting 5-325 m.

Post back after the long range shooting (300+). I'm intrigued to hear how it went.

Mixing and matching parts is 1 thing that makes the AR such a great platform.

If i were in your spot, id be buying all of the parts but with the opposite manufacturer so I can have a DD and BCM.

Had to postpone - shitty weather - planning to do this tomorrow, and compare against my DDM4V11.
Will be using Trijicon AccuPower 1-4x24.
Will post pics of targets at 100 and 200 yards.

Just came across this thread. My current favorite barely has 2 parts from the same manufacturer.

Have parts from 15 manufacturers on my favorite AR.
