I know there have to be some ways to minimize the irritation from the waist belt on this thing, but I'm having trouble coming up with them. Using a different ruck isn't an option at the moment, sadly. I did a 12 miler about a month ago and it tore my hips up. The six miler last week did the same. I'm wondering if its just a matter of getting it more onto the waist than the hips, but I haven't really been able to get the ruck up that high I don't think. I've got a 12 miler on Friday and really don't want bigger holes in my skin.

Swap out your frame for: https://downeastinc.com/shop/node/6
Or a cheaper route: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/391433252848?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true

Short term I would suggest adjusting and loading it differently. I cannot find it now but there was a site that showed how to adjust all the pads based on body/torso size.

When I did air assault school it was with the ALICE packs, never used the waist belt. If they're forcing you to use it now, try inverting the belt on the frame, looks goofy but it works with my molle ii pack.

I'll look into that one. They don't force us to use it, but it makes a big difference for me. I couldn't get the pack up high enough to get it off the rubbed spots from the 6 miler so I just went without it this time. Like I said, using aftermarket parts wouldn't have flown there or in one or two of the other schools I want.

You can also try lowering the shoulder straps on the frame, to raise the load. I'm 6ft but my ruck is setup for someone short, I like it to ride as high as possible and prefer the buckle of the kidney pad/belt on or above my navel. You can unhook the ruck from the frame on the bottom, keep all your gear in the upper compartment of the ruck and cinch the bottom half of the bag tight with the straps.

I may do that. I've seen one or two people do it but it's just a pain in the ass to mess around with that POS.

I agree with turnkey. Only thing ive found to help it to just get the damn thing higher up, pretty much have the buckle on my belly button and really tight. Then I loosten the shoulder straps as much as I can without it moving. Keep heavy shit high up and close to your back as possible.

Put the kidney pad flat side up, take duct tape and tape the pad. Tuck your blouse into your pants. Don't do the lower the straps if you're a tall guy. I'm 6'2 and tried my buddy's set up and it was miserable. If you have glide or goldbond stick rub that around.
