I have an 18" rifle that I'd like to throw a scope onto (getting rid of my 1-4x). Most plinking will be done at 100 yards but I'd like to start getting into some 200 & 400 yard shooting.

I'm looking for something in the </=$300 range. I'd prefer it to be 30mm as I already have a mount. I'd like ballistic reticle and illuminated but if I can get more for my money with something that excludes one or both I'd still consider it.

The PA 4-14x was calling to me but since this is an area I am truly a novice I wanted to get some info here.

Thank you.

The SWFA Super Sniper will get you out to 400 yards no problem. The only downside is that it's a fixed power scope. Upside is that it's as tough as nails and has a great track record.

The SWFA is the only scope I would even consider in the $3-$400 range. I have personally shot out to 1000 yards with a fixed 10x on a 308. However, I would highly recommend saving your money and shopping for a gently used optic with more features.

Ditto the SWFA, have one in 10X and 20X.

My 'next up' scope, in terms of quality, is on my precision AR, that being a Vortex PST 4-16X, another ideal VALUE in that price tier (ballpark $750+).

Another for the SWFA. I have it on my bolt gun...bombproof.
