Okay, so let's say, hypothetically, that a friend had been in a job and managed a car dealership for 14 years post college but after 9/11 felt compelled to get involved and "make a difference" in the war on terror. Let's also say that said friend did not choose to join the military for whatever reason.
So fast forward 10 years and the job just isn't going in the right direction as some loose promises and class action suits do not appear to be changing the rather sad pay, retirement package (it's a 30 year deal and tops out at a GS-8 salary) that the friend was really counting on. So much for optimism. Had the pay gotten better or the amount/type of work picked up, he would have stayed and been satisfied.
So the question is: are there jobs available that have as much of the following as possible: hoping to stay federal to not lose those 10 years, LEO would be preferred so as to keep personal firearms and would like something, action-wise, in the middle between standing static posts at federal buildings and the border shootout scene from movie "Sicario."
Friend is FBI certified defensive tactics instructor, firearms instructor, fitness advisor, honor guard member, is among top four shooters in the unit annually and is a former officer of the year. Gets really interesting when throw in that he's closer in age to 50 than 40 which rules out many federal LEO spots with mandatory retirement at 57 (so had to be in by 37th birthday).
This epiphany has just hit in last few days and he had been under the idea that this is where he was going to retire so apologies if above post reads like a unicorn hunt...
