View Full Version : VLTOR Imod Beard-Snag Solution?

I'm not sure if it's me, but the VLTOR Imod stock seems to snag a bit on facial hair. I never full on grow out a beard; a bit of a scruff is as much as it gets.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so, does anyone have any solutions to it? I like the stock a lot in every other way, but that snag is just annoying.

I don't have the stock at the moment, but before buying one again I'd like to see if there's anyway to remedy that snag problem.

On a side note, how is the HK MR556 stock compared to the VLTOR if anyone that has experience can share? Judging by looks, they look similar except the HK doesn't seem to have that "snag" point.

I tried the Magpul MOE SL, MOE SL-K, SOPMOD, and a few others. So far the Imod has been just right in every way except that snag. The SL-K is nice, but mine has an annoying wobble. I know, not a huge problem, but it's there.

Thanks

It's a common complaint with some of the Vltor stocks though I've never had it happen myself and I own 2 EMODs. You could try some electrical tape.

I used to shoot an EMOD and had a long beard. The cheek piece joint never pulled my hair out, but the the stock opening where it goes over the receiver extension did.

I tried a MOE SL and it was did it worse than any stock due to the spring design. The CTR is the best. Don't recall ever getting plucked by a SOPMOD either.

I quit using them due to their non facial hair friendly approach to stocks.

These are my preferred stock but I've never had an issue with my facial hair getting caught. However, I've read tons of complaints about it. Does anyone actually remove the storage compartments? Given the amount of complaints, I wonder why Vltor continues to manufacture them this way or at least make a model with fixed compartments to alleviate the issue.

I put a length of duct tape over the seam between the stock body and the storage compartments. I hope this helps!

That sticky goo that comes out from under the duct tape is gonna be a mess.

This is a serious operator conundrum:

Beard vs. Gear
...it's worse than when your operator cap clashes with your Oakley's...#OAF

Seriously though, if you can't part with either, there's a lot of ingenious things that long-range/precision guys are securing/adhering to cheekpieces that would serve you much better than duct tape... moleskin for example.

Never used an Imod, but I've had facial hair pinched between the stock and receiver extension with BCM and Magpul stocks. I consider it a reminder to shave.

Things I have done:

Fully extende the length of pull
Remove tubes because when fully opened face no longer rests on stock, negating need for shape

Ive never had the vltor battery tube joint pluck any facial hairs, despite constantly hearing about it. Ive only ever had the RE/stock joint grabbing my beard.

Maybe the new BCM stock would be a solution once it's released

Same here. B5 SOPMOD vs EMOD, to me they are both the same.

SOPMOD
This was my solution. Although I still love the vltor stocks

This is where I get them pulled as well

As much as I want a tactical-beard, I happen to fall into this category:

I think if any "facial hair" of mine got stuck on it I would be in glee for having any as is. Haha!

For those of you who have this issue, truly sorry on that regards. I can't even imagine.

ETA: What do you know, my 200th post was about my inability to grow facial hair... This will not be a good start in GD.

I am Chinese with only stubble at best but VLTOR stocks do occasionally pull short hairs especially during spirited shooting drills. As mentioned above, I solved it by filling the cracks with a hot glue gun and using a razor blade to shave the excess flat.

And I bought a bunch of other stocks as well!

Dennis.

I know it's been mentioned, so I'll second: use moleskin. Not only will it cover the little beard grabbers, but it's also nice and comfy if you should spend a significant amount of time looking through your scope laid out in the prone, or on tripod, or whatever. If color is a problem, you can find tan athletic tape. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think I'm just going to buy one, and try it out again with all the ideas. Would rather not use the hot glue gun method, but we'll see. Thanks again

Been a while since if handled an Emod but how about a BCM GF sticker? Everyone has those lying around...
