I may sell a couple nice guns to free up cash and buy something more utilitarian.

The only handguns I'll have left I sell the 2 I have planned will be a J frame and a Garthwaite Colt S70.

We have a 10rd limit here but since cash will be tight, I'd like to buy a 9mm for cost and since live fire practice will be minimal, soft recoiling and simple layout will be key.

I know some brands 10rd neutered mags are not as reliable but I've heard hk and Sigs are.

I've owned both Brands and like both. For hk I've had a dasa and also V1 and light lem models with about 3000rds through full size hk45 with that system.

It'll be a month or so before actually purchasing but I'd like to start buying mags and kydex soon.

I'd like a mid sized gun good for appendix carry on weekends (job won't allow carry) and HD as well as possibly 1 class a year ad maybe 1 competition a year if I'm brave.

Models I'm most interested in that seem to make sense:

P229 E2 SAS
P229 Legion
P239 (SAS maybe)

HK P2000
HK P30
If I change my mind to .45...HK45c.

I'd go LEM or Da/SA. Either way. I'm willing to buckle down and learn either since I haven't touched either in years. Much of my practice will be dry fire.

I'm not interested in striker at this time.

Of then all, I'd get a P30 LEM.

You are in a restricted area, have you looked into a .22 conversion kit for your 1911? Kimber makes a decent one.

I know .22 availability is spotty but when I shoot, it's all I shoot anymore. It's real time, fundamental feedback.

I know you aren't into striker guns but I still keep my 10 round glock mags for screwing with and they still work pretty well after years and years. I'd imagine HKs would be better.

Good luck

Put the Sig 225-A1 on your list.

I sold my Glocks and mags.

The P30 lem is sure a great one. A few things that leave me meh about are rough texture on skin when carrying with no under shirt in Summer. Tends to cost about $950 with 3 mags and ns. Long grip tends to print.

Damn good idea. Any reliability or range reports? I'll have to research it. Thank you.

The new 225 take new mags....not compatible with the old 225. Saw one yesterday and it isn't small. Grip may not be P30 but it ain't much smaller

Definitely not into a sub compact so medium size is good. If it's p229 size but thinner that's great.

I've heard a few range reports and it's pretty favorable. Mags were harder to get upon release but should be much better now. Given your situation I could never bring myself to carry a gun with a 15-17rnd capacity but only 10 rounds, so much of a waste. So my theory is why buy the bulk? At least with the 225 you get a slimmer design, hammer fired and still a decent capacity in a shootable size. Not to mention if you carry a spare mag, instead of carrying a neutered 15rnd (again with the added bulk) you get a nice slim mag.

P30 would be my vote. HK 10rnd mags have been flawless for me.

P2000 LEM is a solid choice and about $700 (less than your estimated 950 for P30) for the 3 magazine NS LE version.

That 225-A1 sure looks nice. I've owned three Sigs - all German. Never much cared for the Exeter stuff until very recently but this one is on my radar.

BTW OP, I'd hang onto that J Frame if I were you. I think everyone should have at least one in their collection just in case.

Staying with the j frame for sure.

The P2000 LEM was my main focus the past couple weeks until I remembered how much I like P229s.

The P2000, 229 were my hardest look but that 225 is very interesting.

$715 is hard to beat as a shipped price on that p2000.

Fwiw the 229 legion is VERY impressive IMO. And if you already have an affinity towards 229s well, not a bad choice at all. I love mine.

Does it fit standard 229r holsters?

The obvious issue with the Legion is cost. I'm grimacing at the P30 price and the Legion is $200+ more but DAMN it's a sick package.

I also think it's odd that half the pistols I'm really digging, have no rail and this gun will be serving double duty, half of which is HD. Nothing wrong with a handheld light though.

If you have a NY CCW or LEOSA, I'd probably just get a 239 if you are concerned with printing.

The mag capacity isn't "controversial" by NY law and it's a single stack by design.

Would still look into a .22 conversion kit for your 1911.

But if capacity or size weren't an issue...I'd still look into P30

For a pistol to be used in a concealed carry or double-duty as a general purpose sidearm, then I would go with the HK P30 or P2000 series.

Either the P30 and P30 SK or the P2000 and P2000 SK in 9mm. Since, the grip on the P30 is a deal breaker, then the choice is easy.

Having a compact and sub-compact should cover most self-defense needs.

I love SIGs, but would go with the HKs because of the added durability and stellar reputation of reliability.

Anyone have any pics of the p2000 and P229 appendix?

Would you say carrying the p30 would be pretty much like the VP9 in size? I've had that VP9 appendix a few times not too long ago.

FWIW I suggest taking a look at the Sig 2022. Highly underrated and about half the cost of the others you mentioned. Bruce Gray, who is one hell of a gunsmith and the premier Sig gunsmith, once said something along the lines of he could carry any gun he wanted but prefers the 2022.

IMO their triggers are smoother out of the box than the P series and I have heard that a SRT kit is in the works. Spend the money you save on mags, ammo, training, or maybe even a backup 2022.

It is roughly the same size as the 229 and has a rail.

Very interesting. I'll look into it.

I'm considering da/sa vs lem.

I have a 229 Legion and I'd never consider it thin enough for appendix carry. It's a beast even on the hip, most Sig's are a little "chunky". I couldn't imagine putting up with that weight and size for something with only 10 round of 9mm. Now maybe a P220 in .45, now I could feel like I'm not sacrificing anything.

I carried a govt 1911 for a while appendix but that can get ugly in weather especially when it's blued and it's humid.

Sounds lie another nod to the p2000 or P30

Pretty much stuck between the P2000 or P229 here. The USPC is a good option though.

I'm wondering whether it'd be better to go with the 225-A1, built around 8rd mags and a little smaller rather than a larger gun with neutered mags. Would I be losing anything? Controlability? Speed on follow up shots?

It should be a powderpuff to shoot, without the added hassle of the mag blocks and wasted space for rounds you can't have. I have no problems with controlability and followup shots on a Glock 27 which is far less gun than the 225-A1.

I have a classic P225 that I like very much for AWIB carry. It does carry slender despite what some say about the width of the grip. The SS mags carry great in a Wilderness horizontal mag pouch.

There is absolutely no way in Hell I'd carry a double stack gun with neutered 10 round mags. Makes absolutely no sense.

The P239 is more concealable than the 225A-1 and it can be bought in basic black Nitron finish with night sights. All the frilly stuff Sig does is quite ridiculous.

Sig should have made a new mag for the 225A-1 instead of extending the base plate on the 239 mags. The new 225 is just a bigger 239.

I'm pretty much giving up and going to grab a P2000 or HK45c I think. This NY shit is driving me nuts. That 239 may be a good choice though. The P2000 is hard to beat for the price. I lose 3rds with 10rd mags. Not great but better than 5.
I'm really trying not to do .45 because it's much more expensive.

Good choice man. Get some federal hst 230 +p and some practice ammo. I'm so glad I moved away from NYC when I did. When you come to free America, though, you'll still be w ell served by that HK45c
