I keep an AR15 ( SBR) in my bedroom closet. I want to secure it out of reach from grandchildren ( toddlers), but keep it handy.

Preferably mounted vertical, full magazine inserted, chamber empty.

What do you recommend?

I searched the archives and researched the topic, didn't find a great solution.

If I have to, I will make one in my woodshop.

Thanks
RFA

I bought a couple of orange bicycle hooks. Mounted about 6' up.

I have one of these. Haven't decided where to put it yet.

That seems like a very good idea. I am thinking of mounting my Tavor on my closet wall above the doors to hide it a little better. I may go with this idea

I made a rest out of scrap wood. It's ugly but works. I kinda like the shot lock.

I use auto-locking guitar hangers to keep a rifle out at night. The kind that, when you apply pressure, two little arms rotate up. Keeps it out of the way and, well... who doesn't like looking at their own stuff?

Shitty cellphone pic of it directly over a desk lamp;

ETA - I can't make any of mine mount muzzle-up with that setup, so be aware of that.

I use a Plastix Plus mount that goes into the magwell and you have to push the mag release to get the gun off the mount. You cant keep a mag in it, but beyond that its a great mount. Its got a pocket for a magazine.

I use one of these magnets for a handgun. They say two will work for a rifle or shotgun.

These work good on a 16 penny nail - http://redneckriflehangers.com/product/redneck-rifle-hanger-ar-15-gun-rack/

I've got these and they're so simple and effective that I can't not be satisfied: http://www.verticalgunracks.com/store/p1/Vertical_Gun_Rack.html

Not much exposed steel on an AR to attach to ;)

Thats exactly what I did, bicycle mounts, up high in the closet. I can easily grab the gun and not have to worry about unlocking things and its far above the reach of children. Doing that is the fastest way to keep your rifle secured and ready to go I feel.

A few years ago, I remember someone posting a link to a closet mount that had a floor piece that the stock fit into and then a wall lock for the barrel that was similar to the vertical locking mounts used in police cruisers. Has anyone seen something like that? I've been searching around and haven't been able to find it again. Thanks!

I dont necessarily like how the bottom of that(that the gun hangs on) goes inside the trigger guard. I know most will store their gun chamber empty, but I could for-see something bad happening with that design when you go to grab the gun off of it. Just a personal observation.

I did the same thing. Mounted directly over the closet door - inside of course. After trying out in realistic conditions, I had to band the sling to avoid it catching on the hooks.

That's not how mine fits in. I put the magwell on the bottom part if pointed down or the grip if pointed up. You're right though - the way the HK is shown in that photo is just plain dumb.
