View Full Version : Anyone here like CZ's?

This is the only CZ that I own, I think it is a great pistol....Can you believe I had thought about selling it? After pulling it out of the safe, as I haven't shot it much lately, I re-realized just how nice of a pistol it is. Besides, I have done quite a bit of work on it, so theres a little bit of sentimental value to it as well. My first stippling/matting job

I really like my P09, it will most likely become my EDC. I have come to view it as the embodiment of my dream pistol a poly framed Hi Power.

Yes, I've owned several although I currently own only one. All have worked without issue and the current one has at least 20,000 rounds through it, no breakage but I did wear out a sear.

I think they are a great, albeit still kind of a niche gun. I believe Mike Panone competes with a CZ. The ones I have handled seemed great. Not a ton of aftermarket support ie: holsters etc. that's likely the biggest drawback in LEO circles. As a full time trainer, I can tell you that the current crop of striker fired polymer pistols are so good, it's a tough market to break into. With blue label Glocks at $500ish, and the S&W M&P and HK VP9 not that much more. We just finished an academy with 54 recruits. In all, over the course of 80 hours of training, the individual will fire somewhere around 1000-1100 rounds of pistol ammo. It's not unusual to not see a malfunction during the entire training cycle. The modern pistols are just that good. Not saying the CZ isn't, it's just that no one is looking to change.

Mike pannone seems to be a big proponent. He's been shooting a 07 for a while now and has rave reviews, a lot of guys go right ahead and drop in the cajun gun works parts etc...the aftermarket support is starting to increase but it's nowhere near glock yet......YET

I like the 75 bd.

If it was in SS I might have bought one.

Not only can you get an all metal gun, you can get an all steel gun.

I like it, but which mags work in which gun and the last thing I need is a new holster, mags, etc platform to outfit.

It is bad enough having Berettas with different slides and generations lights.

wow, you did a great job getting rid of the waffle iron grip. Did you do all that with a file?

I dig the CZ's and will probably get a Shadow 2 if they ever make it onto our shores.

CZ is top quality but their normal trigger on the old 75 line left them behind. It was shootable, but not great. Great accuracy and reliability. The new Omega line provides a better trigger OTB, and the ability to switch from DA/SA to safety and back. This should make the P01 and decocker versions more attractive. If they do the Omega treatment to the PCR, it would make an excellent carry pistol. P07/09 line is already making headway.

I agree with you, We carry Glock 21's (wish he were issued 17's...but thats a whole 'other topic) and it is simple and reliable. Great for those who aren't gun savvy.

Dremel to get rid of the raised checkering and to smooth the profile, then a Hammer and half round bastard file.....alot of whacks, and a lot of praying that I wouldn't F something up along the way. Im really pleased with how it turned out. Much better in the hands.

Makes me want to try one.

Not buy one, but try one.

I like the metal frame CZs' the best. The grip allows me to close my hand more like a fist giving me a stronger grip on the pistol I don't get with other pistols. I can see why Col. Cooper liked them.

I gave up my HK pistols (except the P7) and went all CZ type . Best decision I've made. Stock trigger on my SP01 is far better than the one found on the P30 and USP Compact I had. Currently have the SP01, Sphinx and waiting on a Scorpion.

Currently, I only have a second generation P-07 but I plan to get another one. Yeah, I like it that much.

I used to have a CZ-75 in the mid 1990s and that thing was Commie Block rough everywhere you couldn't see, machine & tool marks all over on the inside, but it shot great. I just thought it was too big and heavy for a 9mm.

If we can remain a free country I'd love to get more.

I've owned CZ pistols since the early 90's. I currently have a 75 Pre-B, 75B, PCR, 97B, Kadet pistol, and Kadet Kit. They are all stellar. My buddy has an SP-01 in which he put a lighter hammer spring (main spring) in which really improved the trigger pull which was pretty good to begin with.

05-29-16, 08:28
I've got 2 x Pre-B's and a 75B, plus an SP-01.

I like the SP-01 a lot, and I thought the trigger complaints were just more BS from the Ballerina set... then I took it out for a day of some serious range work.

Well it didn't give me a blister like some of the softer pinker folks, but damn the lower portion of my trigger finger took a beating.

I guess I'm going to have to swap it for an 85 combat trigger... or just put a set of meprolights on my 75B, which is what I should have done all along.

That gun was my first pistol- accurate, reliable, comfortable. I never really needed to look elsewhere...

I stupidly sold my P-01 several months back, but that will shortly be remedied as I have another one arriving next week from Cajun Gun Works. I'm very much looking forward to getting it. Bought a new Stealth Gear holster to go with it, so I should be good to go.

Now I know better...

I the mean time though, while contemplating the trigger swap, I think another pistol may have stolen it's place- I scored a triji'd 92G and dropped in a D spring. It's nice.

I've really really been looking at a Sphinx.

It is, hands down, the absolute best example of a CZ75. I have yet to feel a trigger that is even close to it out of the box. It is the only DA/SA decocker gun I like. All of my other DA/SA guns are safety so I can carry cocked and locked. Only problem I have with it is that it is heavy and you can't find night sights for it.

Wish I saw this today. I just sold my SP01 tactical in 9mm with 2 mags, tritium night sights and a OWB BladeTech holster to a guy for 550. Have to fund my new AR project haha.

Eventually a P07 will replace my FNS40 for EDC.

For you CZ lovers, CZ recently did another run of their CZ 75 B Cold War Commemorative. I don't think CZ advertises them nor do they have them on their main website but they are a pretty cool little gun with some collectability. If my memory serves me correct their fist run about 5 years ago was 1000 pistols in which only 500 made it to the US. The current run is for another 1k pistols which I would assume only 500 will make it here again.

I missed out on the first run so when I came across these again I made sure to get a couple and thought I would pass the info along to those that might be interested.

I've had rimfire rifles and some centerfire 308's for a while now. huge fan. Picked up a 75bd a year ago and love it. led me to pick up a p09 urban grey this week (had to order it) and shot it today. Unreal accuracy. shooting suppressed was a dream too. On the walk out from the range I noticed the P01 urban grey suppressor ready in the case. Had to put $ down on that too. I'm a huge CZ fan. I can shoot them better than my m&p's, hk uspc, and xd.

My first gun was a CZ 75B SA in ~2007. At some point I also had a HK P7 and DW Valor but sold them off and still have the CZ.

Shoots decent too. I kick myself if I don't get at least a 4" group unsupported at 25 yards. Bigger than 6" and I call it a day. I haven't shot much in the past couple years but recently been having an issue of shooting to the right. I've only shot it 2-3 times this year and under 50 rounds per session.

12 rounds. 119-6X

I have 5 months to figure out a suppressor host and a local guy has a threaded P09. My plan was to thread a G17L barrel for a G34 but having never owned a CZ I started looking into these models.

From a purely suppressed standpoint, is it worth to get a factory threaded P07/P09/75 over Glocks?

Its a tick different for sure from my HK VP9 but I'm getting use to it ! :p I have run the HK off and on with my 07 for the last couple years but really have run the VP9 more so the CZ is a big difference but I really like how flat it shoots,,the extra weight is really nice in keeping on target and fast follow ups ! I'll get at least another 4/500 rds through it this week cuz I want to run it next weekend in a local IDPA match, should be fun ! I'll keep ya posted on how she runs, but I'm sure there won't be any issues . Here is a pic from the other day at the range,it was late in the day and the Sun was giving me fits but still a decent pic !

Thanks for the vote of confidence for the Greg Cote group, that's good to hear.

On your VZ "grenade" pattern grips, are they thinner than the factory grips? and is the texture easy on the hand?

Thanks.

Looked at a P09 in 9×19mm today, very tempting pistol. Unfortunately the trigger was not as clean as a P07 I also handled in .40S&W. No interest in another .40S&W.

Also very curious about the Sphinx SDP Compact even though I understand Sphinx is dealing with some financial troubles. I have read mixed reviews of the guns, some report phenomenal triggers while others complain the DA pull is needlessly heavy. I understand Cajun Gun Works no longer works on them due to very tight fitting pins that make take down for trigger work a real pain. Still very curious about the pistol, but I've never seen one in person.

I used to have a CZ 75 BD. One of my complaints with the pistol is one of the most common, the small slide. The other is that there was no checkering on the front or back of the grip and I found it to be a bit slick. I will say that the last thing I could ever complain about is the accuracy I got with it.

I actually have a question for the CZ guys here that I hope someone can answer. How is the upswept beaver tail of the B Omega model compared to the standard "tail" of the B and BD models?

That was actually my other gripe with the BD model. I wish I could of had a slightly higher hold. I would assume that the upswept beaver tail on certain models would make my hold a little more comfortable.

Hey guys what are some of the holsters you are using for the full size CZ 75s ? I see Blade-tech makes a decent one that's a fair price but pretty hard finding other choices . Other places list CZ but aren't specific to my Model,Crossbreed shows a SP-01 Shadow which is close to the Tactical I think but just hate to get one and have to fiddle with it. I found some decent leather ones but some are 6/8 weeks out. Don't need anything fancy just figured I would get some other ideals . Thanks :)

I purchased one of the Cole Distributor Israeli import "Ugly Gun" special pre-B CZ-75's. I sent it straight to CGW for a defensive carry package, a Dawson front sight, and the modification that will allow me to use B model magazines. I'm looking forward to getting it back. I'll probably send it to Rampart Gun Works for some Cerakote. I'll have about twice as much in the pistol as it originally cost me, but it ought to be fun.

I almost went with one of those myself, but after asking, CDI said some of them had exterior pitting. Since I was planning a refinish I didn't want to deal with that and stepped up to one of the better ones.

My 83 was an ugly special though and it looks pretty darn good.

I rolled through my LGS yesterday afternoon and they had a CZ-52 in really good shape, marked at $188. They made me a deal I couldn't pass up at $170 OTD. Going rate is a fair bit higher than that from what I can tell. Gonna take it out at dusk this weekend and see how big a fireball I can get with it lol

For anyone looking for a range/game gun I would go with the P09.

I bought the urban grey suppressor ready model and couldn't be happier. I should tell you that I have been shooting a Shadow Custom in USPSA for years.

The P09 for $500 gives the shadow ($1200) a real run for its money. I can control the P09 better and the recoil is softer to me.

I have not handled enough different ones to be very well versed,
And my knowledge of the different varieties is not perfect.

The DA SA ones with no decocker and no FPB I think I have handled have amazing trigger pulls.

A friend at work ordered one a while back, it was a decocker one.
Which I was also thinking of getting.

Out of the box new it had a trigger like a D spring Beretta with a broken in and smoothed trigger.

Anyways,
If I want a steel framed CZ with decocker,
Which damn model do I get?

After looking at the website any Omega seems to be convertible between safety & decocker. So if you don't want a light rail you would want a CZ-75B Omega.

The more knowledgeable CZ experts please correct me if I am mistaken.

Yes - generally only P series (poly) Omegas were convertible. Now, with the advent of the P01 Omega convertible it seems that CZ has expanded to a non-railed 75B model also. It is a good feature. It would be nice to see PCR version.

Been lusting over some CZ's for awhile now but finally pulled the trigger on a P-01 in Urban Grey. My only complain was when I was playing with one at a local shop was that the trigger seemed a bit too far forward for my liking. I plan on shooting it for awhile first but anyone have any recommendations on a fix for that or any other upgrades? I've heard a lot about cajun gun works and cz customs but just started doing some research on some trigger work that I may want to try later on down the line.

Decocker effectively reduces the distance

I had the exact opposite problem which made the P series not really work for me- the trigger is too far back

I think the CGW kit amplifies this a bit which might work for you. Worth asking them

So I finally find a CZ P07 in 9mm in stock at a shop in a nearby city, urban gray frame, extended threaded barrel, tall suppressor sights. I am instantly stoked. Then I dry fire it a few times. Yuck.

The last P07 I looked at in .40S&W had a very nice trigger, same for a P09 I looked at. This one not so much. I realize I could drop a new trigger in it, but don't want to have to deal with it right away. Too bad. Plus there are few options for good sights.

So I bought a VP-9 because the trigger is consistent, and there is some aftermarket.

Kenneth

Just a side by side size comparison between the CZ 75D PCR vs. Beretta/Wilson 92G Compact Carry:

http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/20160724_175033.jpeg

The Wilson/Beretta is a little more refined, better rear sight (Wilson) and more visible front sight, enlarged magazine release, better finish, nice/cool Elite II hammer, D spring and VZ grips.

The CZ required a Cajun 15 lb hammer spring to bring the DA pull to a little below the D spring in the Beretta. I think the CZ fits my hand better. The DA trigger reach on the CZ is a little longer than the Beretta. CZ is slightly shorter overall, slightly less than 1/2". VZ grips could be added to the CZ. Weight about the same for both guns. The front sight on the CZ is very hard for my old eyes to pick up, I had to paint it orange for better visibility.

Both good guns.

I'm most definitely a Glock guy, however, my pistol collection was a little too vanilla and I really wanted something with a bit more class, and preferably an alloy or steel frame to breakup the polymer wonderland that is my pistol safe. 1911's don't really do it for me (and I wanted out of .45 all together anyway), the slide mounted safety/decocker on the Beretta 92 is awkward for me and the Sig controls just didn't feel right.

Looking into the CZ's I found most user (not gun mag) reviews to be very positive, more so than for most other manufactures. The style was definitely there, these things are beautiful, and the ergos were awesome.

I initially ordered a 75D PCR online and while waiting for it to arrive at my LGS I went to drop off my Glock 21 for consignment. While there I saw a 75 SP-01 Tactical and made the mistake of asking to handle it. Needless to say I left with it.

I haven't shot the PCR yet, but the SP-01 is a dream! I just installed the CGW spring kit in the SP-01 and should be able to swap out the PCR as well before a range day this weekend.

My only complaint is that the factory PCR sights are kinda dingy and the aftermarket doesn't leave many options.

OP, love your pics and your custom build.

For me, yes I liked CZ's and went through a phase where the steel models were my favorite 9mm semiauto and I had a whole stable of those models at one point (75, 85 combat, 97, sp01, Kadet conversion, etc). They were the most accurate factory 9mm's I've ever had, my 85 was only slightly less accurate than my C&S custom 1911 9mm that cost oh, many times as much. :-) And I loved the grip angle and SA trigger. But, my experience with them was that although I loved SHOOTING the pistols, they ended up being not a great solution and I sold mine off.

These are just some things I was looking for in a 9mm pistol that the CZ's I had at the time didn't fit, other folks will have different criteria:

1. There were better/lighter options for CCW with modern materials, improved striker-fired actions, and highly available parts, holsters, etc. H&K, M&P, Glock, etc. I admit the modern P07 model is CZ's answer to that, and I've never owned or even tried a P07, so my experience is a bit dated there. I do know there's no way I would use one of my older, heavy all steel CZ's for CCW. And even if you compare the modern CZ P07 to say Glock, H&K, or M&P, you'll still find a lot more options for holsters, sights, people who can work on them, etc., compared to CZ. I know however, that CZ is growing its presence in the US and there are increasing parts and folks who can customize, like CGW. So they're definitely becoming a competitor to the other brands.
2. For a highly accurate range toy that I don't plan to carry, I prefer the 1911 platform with a light SA trigger.
3. Reliability. At first the CZ's seemed super rugged and reliable, but over time, I had an issue with broken return springs and repeat instances of that. Later I heard this was attributed to a bad lot of springs, but for me this was several pistols and spread out over a couple of years. I've never had that many reliability issues on a modern plastic pistol I've owned. Maybe CZ now has that all resolved, I expect their new trigger system is more simple and reliable, and my pistols didn't have that.

So yeah, I liked and still like CZ's, a lot. If I were getting one today, I'd be interested in the P07 for possible CCW, given Mike Pannone's writing it. Mike seems to believe the modern P07's are plenty reliable, as do others. But for the above reasons, I just don't personally have a practical reason to add any CZ's right now. The 1911's are the ones I shoot for fun and accuracy, the M&P's (upgraded with Apex parts) are the ones I keep for self-defense and carry.

Both good guns.

I like that Wilson Beretta, and do have a 92FS Compact with D spring and Elite II hammer that I installed, but I have been carrying the 75D PCR since 2000. It has been flawless, very accurate and reliable. Maybe I got lucky, but the stock trigger pull, and trigger break is excellent. Lighter than by Beretta, and lighter than my 75B. I have never carried the Beretta compact. It is a bit too chunky compared to the PCR, and the grip of the PCR fits me better.

Horrible guns, I don't know why anyone would buy a CZ!

40863

The P07 is my carry gun, the one with blue grips is my Accu-Shadow match gun and the one with red grips is my dry-fire/practice/backup match gun.

The Accu-Shadow came first last June and it has about 14k through it, mostly matches and some practice and dry-fire sessions. No malfunctions that were not ammunition related and no parts breakages.

The Shadow was a stock gun, that I purchased after selling some Glock match certificates, and I did the trigger work myself. In all it cost less than a CZ Custom version of the same gun. It has about 25k through since September of last year and a crap load of dry fire. No malfunctions that were not ammunition related and it finally broke a trigger return spring a month or so ago and that was after 20k and a crazy amount of dry fire.

Both Shadows have 5.5 pound double actions, and just under 2 pound single actions. All the ammo that I have run through them were my reloads and the only time I have had a problem is when I use my practice ammo, which I don't case gauge or inspect before loading it up and shooting it. My match ammo actually gets inspected.

I purchased the P07 after being so impressed by the Shadows and playing with them in the store, one finally had to come home. It quickly replaced my Glock 19 as my daily carry. Trigger is almost stock, I just polished up some of the components, and put in a slightly lower hammer spring and an extended firing pin. DA is about 8.5 pounds, single is just over 3. It has only about 1500 rounds through it, but it was all factory ammo and has run perfectly.

Next will most likely be a P-09. Very impressed with the guns, and I have either carried on-duty or off, and competed with all different manufacturers and models and I have come to prefer the CZ's.

I have had my 07 for a couple years but just found the Springer mag base after I bought my SP-01 and needed some extra mags,I went over to Greg Cote and I saw them there so figured I would buy a few and try them out ! That's a good ideal to keep your mag's separate, I only have 12 mag's at the moment with 6 in my rotation with the rest stashed. I need to get at least a 1/2 dozen more for my liking and then I will be content ! :D At least for a little while,,LOL I find what's interesting is the more you look & talk with shooters the more you find good stuff/support for CZ it seems ! I think the hardest thing to find is a good holster (certain models) and really there are plenty of those out there but ya do need to look a little harder than for your Standard Striker guns and your 1911s. Anyway thanks for the info on the grips, I went and looked and they are out of stock at the moment but I saved the Webpage for future use ! :D

Anyone know if CZ has plans to do an SP-01 or P09 with a slide cut for an RDS? I've been wanting an SP-01 for a long while and I'd like to try a pistol with RDS. But I know as soon as I buy one they'll release one for an RDS a month later because that's the kind of luck I always have.

Slides are available from CZ Custom and I'm sure they can cut the slide to your specifications.

CZ has been so responsive to the customer market,
I have been expecting any day to see a version of their omega or something cut for one.
I would expect a polymer frame version first since that would make weight for CO.

I have a CZ 75 sp01 shadow that I shoot USPSA production class for the past two years. I shot a glock 34 before the CZ. I shoot so much better with a metal gun than a plastic gun.

The grip, and grip angle of the metal CZ pistols seem made for my hand. I like the 75 series better than my Browning Hi Power MK III which is saying a lot, and I have come to like my 97B more than my 1911's. Heresy, I know, but that is reality. I no longer have any plastic pistols. I even sold my HK USP .45 Tac.

Ben at Boresight Solutions posted that he will be offering modification packages for CZ P05's and 07's in collaboration with Mike Pannone in the near future. I've only got a 75, but I'll now keep my eyes open for one of those.

It'd be a perfect gun for a lot of things.

Would love to see a new CZ Stirker Fired pistol, that CZ100 looks a bit funky.

I just got a P-09 yesterday after reading all the positive reviews here. If I like it I might get the P-07 later also.

If my experience is anything to go by, you'll really enjoy it. I've had my new-to-me SP-01 for a week and it's already had 200 rounds thru it during 2 range trips. I'll be running it tomorrow as well in the local bowling pin match.
It's quite addicting as I'm now working on a trade for a 75B SA and I plan on picking up another SP-01 in the next 6 months.

My buddy is a huge fan of CZ handguns and I personally think they are of great quality. However, they just don't fit my hand as nicely as other handguns I prefer to carry. That said, the only CZ "handgun" currently on my want list is the 805 Bren pistol. ;)

I think Cz has figured out some sort of black magic with their ergonomics. They seem to fit my hands better than almost any other pistol. I carry a Glock everyday but I have always had a fondness for these Czech pistols. The SP-01 is too heavy for EDC but as a home defense, duty use or range gun it's great.

I'm taking it out to Pikes Peak Gun club tomorrow with my son. It's his pistol. He wanted an all steel pistol. It was this or a Sig 226. He decided on this after doing his research. For a 12 year old he knows his guns.

My 13 year old son is the same. He has his narrowed down to a very similar list. I love it.

Took my son out to shoot his new CZ. We tried several different kinds of ammo for the heck of it. We got some Federal 115gr bulk brass, Federal 115gr aluminum bulk, WWB 115gr bulk, Privi 115gr. Fired 350 rounds through it. Pistol ate everything we had with zero malfunctions. It was pretty accurate. He will improve with more time behind the pistol.

First rounds at 10 yards. Windy conditions. All groups are my sons.

We lost the target with the WWB. The wind blew it away. Groups looked similar.

The SP-01 is a very smooth shooting pistol. Very low recoil as you would expect from a pistol this size and caliber. Accurate right out of the box and not bad looking IMHO. Can't wait to shoot it again.
