Gentlemen,
I am interested in this rifle and would like your input based on your experiences. How was out of the box accuracy? how far have you shot it? and anything else you like or dislike.
Thanks in Advance.

I love my LTR in .308. (Picture is in the build thread).

Compared to the full PSS I've heard people claim that the LTR is more accurate at shorter ranges (<300yds) due to it's stiffer barrel but at longer ranges with the less velocity it's better to go for a full length barrel.

Mine has proven to be .5 MOA (and I'm not the best shooter) out to 600yds.

Unless I was going to be shooting a lot at 1000yds I'd get this one over the full PSS.

Just received mine (.308) a couple weeks ago. Ordered the package deal from SniperCountryPX.com, which came complete with a nice case, cleaning supplies, log book etc. They were very good to deal with and can offer some customization on the packages. The package was a good option for me because I am a precision rifle newbie, and had no idea what I needed to start out.

Have not made it to the range with it rifle yet as the scope I ordered is at least two months out on the build (US Optics SN-3 3.2-17 TPAL). I may take it out sooner just to get a feel for it.

I read many good things about the accuracy of the fluted 20" barrel. I wanted something shorter as I am having it threaded for an incoming AAC 762-SD. After that, probably a Mcree's stock system. I have seen some complaints about the newer Remington trigger system, but I am so unaccomplished that I apparently can't recognize how bad it is (if it is truly that bad). My inexperienced trigger finger found the trigger relatively crisp with little creep. Pull weight is around 4 lbs I am guessing. I plan on using it in a LE role, so I will likely leave the trigger alone.

Also check out the Remington SPS Tactical as an option to save some $$$ if you plan on replacing the stock anyways.

I"ve had one for a couple of years now. Mine seems to be as accurate as my issued PSS, but the PSS is a bit easier to shoot, at least from supported positions. The LTR is much handier to carry around.
If I was to re-equip our dept. with new sniper rifles, they would be LTRs.

I forgot about this, as I upgraded to a Jewell trigger and set to 3lbs. The stock trigger was heavy and I didn't want to mess around with the remington trigger as some people have done. For the more mechanically inclined you might have good luck tuning the stock trigger.

LTR is GTG except for the trigger. Mine had a heavy pull weight, much heavier than my match AR that barely swings a 4.5# weight. Felt like pulling on an alternator belt until it broke. Budget another couple hundred for a Jewell trigger and drive on.

My LTR is a DBM model. It is an easy sub moa rifle. And before anyone asks...I've never had any problems with the mags,it runs like the energizer bunny!
Over the years it has become probably my favorite 'grab and go' gun due to its excellent low weight and accuracy.

I like it so much that I picked up a takeoff LTR barrel to build another and am presently waiting to get the barrelled action back from my smith so that I can get it into a McM Edge m40 {HTG} stock. This will be a standard BDL but I did have him put on an OPS-INC brake on it.

Can't go wrong with an LTR...or 2!!

The trigger on mine was too heavy out of the box; I adjusted to around 3 1/2 or so.

For work up to 600 yards, it's a tidy little package. For most urban police agencies, it is just right. We have several LTR's that out-shoot custom rifles at sniper training on a regular basis. In fact, all of the best shots on the unit drive LTR's.

What do you guys think of these in .223? Pretty accurate or does one have to step up to 308?

I have has these in both .223 and .308 in the past. I really enjoyed both as they were easy to haul around. Both were used for carry in the field and shooting woodchucks or what ever else came along.

As for the .223, it would easily shoot sub-moa and when using hand loads and as long as I was doing my part it would shoot .5 - .75moa without issue.

The only thing I wish was different was possibly the palm swell area. I prefer the feel of the PSS rifles I had a bit better.

Beyond that I wouldn't have an issue buying another LTR.

The Remington platform is a good base to build on and lots of options available. I have a 700 VS in 223 and it has always been a tack driver, a friend had a LTR and it shot great. He has now upgraded to something bigger, faster, and longer so he could go after the 1000 yard stuff.

223 is not a bad choice, especially for the cost but the 308 handles the wind much better.

I like the palm swell of the PSS stocks also. 700PSS stock + 700LTR .223 action:

Where are you finding the replacement PSS stocks that fit the LTR? I have a .223 LTR and would be interested. I just find it hard to locate stocks for the detachable mag.

The PSS stock came from a 700PSS - .308 action went to the 'smith for some work.

I have a 700P and have shot LTRs in 223 and 308.

If shooting 600+ yds, get the longer tube of the P.

For everything else, the LTRs work great and the shorter length is really nice. The LTRs are really a best buy.

I do like the palm swell of the P stock, but can live w/o it.

You can't do any better than a LTR as a starting point. Here is CT where 600 yds in rare it's all you need. I didn't have to change the barrel but it became available so I did. It shoots slightly better on a good day because of it.

Bolt guns are a ton of fun but they make building ARs seem cheap.:D

Cohiba my old friend! You haven't come in late night chat in ages!

I'm sending you a url for the chat we use, all the same people you remember. And we'll be online overnight tonight.

Beautiful set up you have there.

I love mine. Solid, light weight, reliable and accurate...hard to beat that...oh yeah, reasonably priced. It shot great from the box and after a little accurizing work, it will shoot next to just about any custom rifle.

hate to resurrect an old thread, but can you yell me what you're using for bipod/sling combo?

I just saw this post from 2008 brought back up.
In response to your question USMC 03 can probably confirm but that appears to be a TIS sling and a Harris BRM-S with a KMW pod lock.

FYI, I did buy an LTR and it was a real good shooter. However the gun has morphed into a custom build by GA Precision. I went with the AICS 1.5 stock, I had the action trued and rebarreled with a Bartlein.

I use the TAB gear sling, check it out here www.riflesonly.com I really like the sling and get good support when using it in positions.

SO, thanks for dragging up this old post, good memories!
Jack
