Just out of curiosity wondering what you guys do

I own a g19 and just bought a g23 both gen 4, I may just put vickers base plates on the 40 mags in FDE but maybe y'all have a better solution

I can see grabbing the wrong mag on accident as a possibility

Anyone interested, the g23 is on sportmans superstore for 339$ shipped gen 4 in "good" LE trade in condition. I couldn't resist

If you are worried about it, get a white paint pen and write “9" or “40" on the mag. I number my mags to easier identify problems and put my initials on them so that I can recover “my” mags when training with a group.

I do number them to identify issues.

I'm just concerned since I seen a friend light off a 9 in a 40, wasn't pretty

Want to figure out a way where if I ever do "accidentally" grab the wrong mag Id have to be a complete idiot.

I'm either thinking

ETS clear mags for one caliber (idk if these are carry reliable)

Vickers FDE baseplate

Neither are ideal to me

The trick is to only buy 9mm Glock 19s.

That way all your mags interchange with all your handguns.

Same with 5.56mm AR15s. ;)

I've found that silver Sharpies write much better than paint pens.

I keep them in separate bins.

I also colorfill the caliber.

I also have a designated "go bag" with an undisclosed number of Glock magazines that exist for no other purpose but emergency

This.

(Or a paint pen and diligence, if you insist on variety.)

I literally do this exact thing with my P30 9mm and 40 cal mags.

I do this. And I only pull out one of those calibers at a time. Ie, if the 19 is out, only 19 mags come out.

Some good suggestions thanks guys

I didn't think to color fill the caliber, I'm going to do that.

I may just put my oem 19 mags to the side and use magpul 19 mags and oem for 23

Or cerakote baseplates/vickers or 10-8 on one, overkill yes but saves the whoops I don't need.

You could have bought 1500 rounds of 9mm for that much!

One of the Sportsmans Police trade ins? I bought one of the 'Good' G23 Gen4s as well for $329 a month ago as well.

I number my mags and just change the color for the 40 from the 9MM. Orange is 9MM, white is 40.

I reload and have more 9MM than I know what to do with : )

I love my 19, was my first pistol (originally gen 3 upgraded to 4) and it fits my hand perfect and easy to ccw. I'll never ditch it.

When 9 was impossible to find during all the ban talk 40 was pretty easy to find and I don't find it all that snappy like some say and shoot it well. I like options.

That's my reasoning for both, I can reload 9 and 40 for almost the same cost.

Yes I bought from sportsmans and chose the "good" also

How was the condition of yours?

Did it come with night sights?

I have an mp 40 with 9 conversion barrel.

My 9mm mags are fde baseplates, my 40 mags are solid black.

I rarely switch back and forth and it's not difficult to make sure your "loadout" maches before walking out the door.

boombotz401

This is an ideal "idiot proof" solution, though I'd wonder if the FDE mags drop free

I keep the mags in different boxes (separated by caliber and capacity). When I go to the range I separate them in my bag and only shoot one gun type at a time. Realistically for range purposes it's probably fine (I've shot 9mm from .40 mags and vice versa), provided the mags aren't pre-loaded with ammo.

For carry purposes of course check and recheck, just like you'd regularly check your carry ammo.

I just box them all separately in my safe. I've got a box for 9, .40 and .45.

Then, I pay attention to what I'm doing when shooting.

Overall I'd rate it at good to very good.

A little speckling of rust on the slide serrations.

Slide stop was worn silver, front sights (regular Glock) was worn as well.

A little dirty, probably a range loaner gun for the department I'd assume. I cleaned it good, put in a - connector, extended slide stop, and put it in the safe - more as a contingency for ammo shortages or to put a 9MM aftermarket slide on at some point. Frame is clean, not worn down at all. One mag like new, one mag a little beat up.

For $329 delivered, it was a deal IMO. I grabbed a couple 40 mags from Botach for $20/ea. Not going to replace the sight until it really needs to be used.

I'd revise the first part to 9mm Glocks, but to also include the 17 (and maybe the 34 if you're competing). I got rid of my.40's a few years back. It was too close to the 9mm to justify the logistical burden, cost and risk of a kaboom.

As for the 5.56 vs .300 BLK, the .300 is sufficiently different to justify the hassle.

For mags you could always buy these;

The basepad Idea is probably the best have a different color or you could run only say the glock pmags for your 19 or the ets clear mags. Make the mags as distinct as possible.

boombotz401
06-02-16, 11:47
Came across these, I'll either order a few or krylon the 40 baseplates, combined with colorfilling the .40 etching I think that's enough to justify calling myself an idiot if I grab the wrong mag

Contacted ets..they said they'll be making g23 13rd mags in about 3 months

Or only .40S&W Glocks... I have four, and I'm shopping for a fifth. No other caliber need apply.

OK, but like everybody else is saying, you've just unnecessarily made the management of your pistol mags/ammo exponentially more complicated.

If you're stuck on the 9mm, then just sell the Glock 23.

It's a possibility, I colorfilled the 40 mags and as I feared it happened anyways.

My buddy was using my 17 and I was running the 23, bang bang poof....wtf?

I held the barrel out for about 45 seconds wondering if I had a slow burn, ejected the round to see only a case come out.

Hoping there's not a round in the barrel I stripped it to see a filthy barrel but no bullet.

Check the ground to see a pretty deformed 9mm round, case didn't rupture but chamber formed to the 40.

So all in all I learned the hard way but I'll share my mistakes as a lesson learned

I label all my mags with paint pens. Gun it's for and then a dash and I number the mags, so if there is a problem mag I know which number.
I keep all my spare mags separate in plastic bins, and I keep a few good mags with each of my primary guns, either in my go bag or in the case with gun.
