View Full Version : Just bought a KAC SR15 mod 2, question...
I know the e3 bolt is proprietary, as is the gas tube, so besides buying a spare of each, what else would you get that that is proprietary to the platform? I just like having a good cache of spare parts for all of my firearms.

great purchase. I'm jealous.
I agree that owning a spare complete E3 bolt and spare gas tube is the proper course of action. However, a scenario may pop up in which you do not need the actual bolt, but you need to replace various elements/springs pertaining to the existing bolt. In that case, in addition to owning a complete bolt, id have an SR15 field repair kit on hand.
Here is a link to the kit I'm referencing, though its currently out of stock at this location. https://www.boltcarrier.com/product/knights-armament-sr-15-field-repair-kit
Ideally, a spare upper just like the one you have. That is very expensive though, and at that point you might as well get the lower too.
What I did was just bought two of the field repair kits for my KAC uppers. Here you go:

You can buy the components of the kit separately too. Things like the extractor springs, extractor, firing pin, &c.

I wouldn't bother with a spare E3 bolt, especially on a 16" unsuppressed mod 2. I'd go with the field repair kit (bolt extractor, bolt springs & firing pin which is proprietary).
and you can run a regular BCG and do fine. It just won't be a KAC BCG. But in a SHTF, you could.

Supposedly, no one has broke an e3 bolt. And if you do, they'll replace it

Cam pin is also proprietary. As alluded to above, just pick up a "Field Repair Kit" as it's got most of the proprietary bolt parts save for the bolt itself:
