Just curious to see what the ammo expenditure for training (Formal instruction and Personal) is among the members on this board. Your best guess will do. I was looking at my shooting log this past weekend and didn't realize that I had fired over 12K rounds of AR, 12 gauge, 9mm, .40 and .45 cal ammo in a 12 month period. :eek:

For the rifles only....

We typically shoot 50 rounds+/- at our matches, once a month.
We typically shoot 200 rounds +/- at our drills nights, once a month.
I typically take two carbine classes a year, average about 1k rounds/class.

so that's (50 x 12) + (200 x 12) + (1,000 x 2) = 5,000/year +/-. that doesn't count whatever other training/practice/plinking I might do. Not a lot I don't guess, but it's all I have time for frankly.

I've been letting the handgun stuff slip very badly this year. My plan right now is to go back to the pistol for 2009 and my carbine round count will probably slip even more. Of course, the Gonzales carbine class in February is 2,500 rounds alone! :eek:

The poll has a gap from 5000-10000.
I'm closer to 10 than 5 so I picked 10,000.

In 2006 I ran 13k+, in 2007 it was 8800+ and so far in 2008 I've shot 4000+.

Ammo price is really starting to limit my range time.

My normal range day (Sundays) are:

AR/AK = 100 or 200
.45 = 50 (varies, sometimes 100)
.40 = 50 (varies, sometimes 100)
9mm =100
____________
300 x 4 sundays = 1200 per month (Average)

I bring one of the two ARs or the AK . Once a month or so, I shoot shotgun (50 rounds). On occasion, I'll bring the CZ82. I have recently started bullseye shooting to increase accuracy, with a S&W 22A and using index cards. Im slowly increasing the speed to accurately engage the targets. So far, it is helping when trying it with the other pistols. It's a cheap way to practice the fundamentals without breaking the bank.

I need to take more carbine courses since it's been a while, but its hard to get 3 days off in a row and plan that far in the future. I normally take an advanced tactical pistol course 2 to 3 times a year (500 rounds per class).

12K rounds is a lot of shooting! Good for you!! :cool:

I checked the 2-5K box.

150 rounds a month in centerfire handgun = 1800 rounds per year.

I pretty much shoot the rifles in the warmer six months of the year but try to get 1000 rounds of 223 through the carbine and 200 rounds of 308 in with the long range guns. This really needs to increase.

As a family we go through about 3000 rounds of 22LR and 1000 rounds of 12 gauge a year.

The past few months have been a little silly for me, because of the thing I've got going on with Smith and the M&P. I've fired over 62,000 rounds through my two M&Ps in the past eleven months.

Before that, I'd average somewhere around 45-50,000 per year ... 95% of which was pistol.

average bet. 30,000-40,000 rds. 70% fired thru pistols the rest thru long guns

I've fallen off bad the last 12 months with only doing 2500 rounds.....normally I'm closer to 10K.
WHY?
What would you rather spend $350 of hard earned cash on.....1K of ammo or a LMT complete lower?
I've banked about seven lowers since the first of the year and I'm not going to slow down until
I see who gets elected, even then I may speed up my purchases. I'm not taking any chances

Since you have a gap (between 5k and 10k), I did not vote. My current round count since the start of the year is about 7,000 for my rifle and about 1,300 for the pistol. But I don't expect to be able to attend any more training courses for the rest of the calendar year. But this is actually a very unusual year for my ammo use.

I am probably more in the range of about 6,000 rounds total a year except for the years I was laid off and/or was attending Graduate school.

Probably 2 or 3 thousand rifle rounds per year. I shoot at least every other week, but don't shoot mag dumps or anything unrealistic.

I shoot once a week, usually 250rd of 9mm, sometimes throw in 50-100rd of 45ACP. If I have a bad week at work, I'll go the second time for another 250rd to blow off steam. My practice route is 4 NRA bullseye, 1 DEA Dots, finish up with Silhouette. Only shoot about 500rd of .223 this year, it'll pick up more carbine soon once I am happy with where I am with pistol.

2006 was a good year for me, did about 15k or so various.

Sucked past two years, maybe 5k 2007 probably only 2k so far this year, just too damn busy and too damn expensive. Need to at least get me a nice 22 to get more practice in my back yard.
