I have a 27" SBR that I'd like to get a bag for. I have a tennis racket bag at the moment, but it doesn't work for many reasons outside the scope of this thread.

I'd like something like this:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/235731/511-covrt-m4-shorty-backpack-500d-and-420d-nylon

However, I'd like it to be more "backpack" less "stupid looking one strap satchel thing".

The sneakybag spider looks pretty good, and almost ideal except I wish it was a little cheaper (Seriously, $170 for a backpack?) and a little wider. This will be the bag I get should nothing else really suffice.

http://www.sneakybags.com/store/Spyder/SPYDER_Covert_Carry_Bag_Small

My main reason for wanting this is if it is in my vehicle and the car breaks down, I don't want to pull out some OD green MOLLE web-covered shoot me first bag when I hop into the tow truck. It will have a loaded KISS SBR, 2-4 spare magazines, medical equipment, cash, and other miscellaneous items.

Are you opposed to breaking the rifle down? It would open up a lot of options with more traditional looking bags.

I just recently went through this exercise and decided on the Vertx EDC Gammut Plus for my needs. Depending on your setup, you could maybe get away with the standard size Gammut.

I have one of the old, original Noveske backpacks that he made with Eagle (back when it was on-shore). It's the discreet grey one with no logos from the first run.

It's very discreet, and I have loaned it to cop buddies and other good guys. It has worked well for my needs and theirs.

I second this. Add a raven concealment top stop. You'll have many more options with this route.

Nice call on the top stop. Never looked into that product before but I'll keep it in mind now. Thanks.

That Raven piece and vertx bag may be more in line with what I'm looking for. I didn't realize how tall a 28" bag was until I measured it out. Looks kind of weird.

Do any of these bags have bungees for securing the rifle parts and magazines? It looks like the vertx bag is just a lined regular backpack whereas the Noveske has them.

Exactly what I thought too.

The back wall on the inside of the Vertx is lined with loop material, so you could add some hook straps to secure things down if you wanted. I personally just plan to throw my upper in the laptop compartment and the lower in the main compartment and let the padding of the laptop compartment separate the two. Then you still have the concealed (CCW) back pocket, internal mesh pockets, top admin pocket, and molle lined front pocket to hold anything else you wanted to take along.

What length upper (barrel) do you plan to transport?

I carry an AR pistol broken down in a sneaky bag briefcase. Sneaky bags cost because they are really engineered... Over engineered and heavily built, which comes in handy with pokey metallic things inside. And the Raven Top Stop is great - it is a must buy.

I also have Vertx Gammut Plus, which is doable (Botach has a half price clearance on certain models presently). If you are inclined to spend real cash for top notch gear, then look at the Velcro lined Arc'teryx Khard (or the civilian Miura). There is also a mostly blatant Ibex copy from Vanquest, but it has stupid external MOLLE added.

A buddy uses a Go Ruck back pack and a Kydex MOLLE panel to hold another pistol (non SBR state). His pistol is assembled and has a Law Tactical folder. That sits well inside a regular pack.

While a bit more $, I run the marz discreet pack. It's the most lo pro pack I've seen/used. It's built well, and has great features - does come with a higher price, but is USA made. It's got mag storage pockets and is able to hold my PC as well

I have a Blackhawk Diversion Racquet bag that I like. It comes with a separator to keep a 16" upper and lower from banging into each other, or you can remove it and just put an assembled SBR in the case.

Euro -

This doesn't look that much different than the sneaky bag - not 'ovalish' and doesn't have back pack straps. I think it would work for your tow truck scenario. I have one for use as a discreet in and out of the house bag. Well made. IIRC, I paid 28.00 at the LGS.

I love my 5.11 Covert Bags. I have both the regular and shorty. Fullsize fits my 14.5 and my Scar 17 folded. The short fits my KSG perfect or my 14.5 broken down.

Do you have a link for this pack? I did a quick Google search but came up empty.

So this is what I've ended up with.

Does anyone have any suggestions on things I can add?

I would really look into grabbing one of the law tactical adapters. It will take your sbr down to about 20-21in. I have 2 and have fired over 1000 rounds through them with no failures. With this setup, my sbr fits in a normal vertx gamut pack.

Maybe it is hidden from view, but have you thought about an NPA for your medical kit shown?

And this may sound a bit off the wall, but perhaps one of those portable cell phone recharge batteries? Or a spare pistol mag for the Glock?

I do have a LAW Gen II folder. It is nice.

Handheld flashlight? Not sure if that's part of your other carry stuff or if I just missed it.

Gloves and one of those high output Surefire Titan Lights with a couple spare AAAs.

Can't believe I forgot about a flashlight :(

What kind of gloves? Leather/nomex type or rubber?

I had considered, and even been reminded I needed, an NPA in the past but always forget to buy a few. I will do so now.

I would go with Mechanix gloves and some regular latex stuff for your med kit.
Also, it may sound kind of silly, but extra prescription glasses if you wear them or eye pro. Nothing sucks worse or takes me out faster than getting some crap in my eyes.

Keeping where you said this in your first post in mind:

I would like to suggest you are considering placing too much in the bag. I'd go with an IFAK, extra TQ's extra mags (rifle and pistol) and a flashlight.

A lot of the med equip you guys are suggesting is for care after an event occurs - I don't see myself inserting an NPR in the midst of an active shooter situation.

I'd back that up with a separate what we called a 'crisis bucket' for mass casualty situations - we actually used 5 gallon buckets sealed with fancy zip ties placed around our facility in various places. You could easily fit that stuff in a cheap bailout bag and leave it in your vehicle if it breaks down, etc. or grab it if you are going to an active shooter.

These would work well as the budget solution - http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=35552606 My only hesitation is that they don't have loops for one of the several bag slings I have laying around, so you'd have to figure that out.

My thought is it would have potential for a lot more supplies than your Sneaky Pete bag would if you try to make it into a bag for every thing.

Just my thoughts.

Edit - love that autocorrect - it changed only to owner! Changed it back.

What kind of gloves? Leather/nomex type or rubber?

Any glove you use as a barrier against transference will need to be sterilized after contact.

So the first question is, for what purpose? I have a box of the same nitrile gloves I use to keep my hands clean in the first aid kit. Shooting/Fighting gloves off, nitrile on for treatment. Willing to sacrifice the shooting/fighting gloves I'm wearing to treat an immediate need, but for mass casualties you need to change them.

I used to love officers that wore gloves all the time 'because I get down with dirty people.' I get that, but it kind of defeats the purpose when you are mining your nose after handling the scumbag.

If you've ever worked on anyone, or been around a good arterial bleed, you'll probably agree that blood gets everywhere quickly. Guys with severe chest injuries also have the potential to be breathing out blood droplets - some very small. Eye pro and a simple dust mask are good additions - you don't want to breath in any droplets or let them get into your eyes - those are some of the quickest routes for bad stuff to get into the body.

I've had good exp with Mechanix Impact gloves, $35 on Amazon last pair I ordered.

Don't know if you've checked out the newest version of the Titan light. It's small enough for a key chain and has a high output of 300 lumens and a low of 15. Runs on 1 AAA, IIRC they were $95 on Midway.

I'm kind of in the same boat right now. Been running an AUG with 4 42 rounders in a Blackhawk Diversion Raquet case. I'm starting to get the feeling too many people know about them though, I want something a little more "grey".

FYI I bought a large 1/2" padded Condura bass guitar bag off eBay for $22 shipped. Holds my 24" barreled precision AR and has gear pockets. In the neck area are velcro straps to hold the barrel in place. Works slick!

Speaking of SureFire (Titan+) & Mechanix (M-Pact 3 Covert), these are the the two [2] that I EDC with me.

Maybe some Multi-Tool, Nitrile Gloves, and/or a Carabiner may be in order?
