View Full Version : SureFire WARCOMP 556
What's the deal with the SureFire WARCOMP 556? You can't find them anywhere and I've had one on back order thru Larue since January. Did they stop making them?

They can't keep up with demand. My guess is they might be sending some to group and ranger bat to see if they want them for the sopmod rifles and if so then that would explain the lack of available warcomps but I personally will never order stuff from larue because 3 years ago I ordered a surefire brake that was listed in stock 2 weeks went by I called them up and they gave me the run around. Their in house stuff is good but when it comes to 3rd party they're at the mercy of that company's supply chain but larue doesn't do a good job of giving accurate lead times. I had two comps on order with midway and they canceled it because they were so back ordered.

They are currently in stock here. I received one from them yesterday. I also just posted this in the "Where Can I Get It sticky Thread" above. https://dsgarms.com/sufwarcomp-556
Call G&R, that's where I got mine.

Pretty significant IMO. I think it may depend on the item more than a blanket discount. I'll shoot you a PM with my total.

Active or military service? 10yrs Marine Corps here, but no longer active.
Ive got 2 on a 12.5, and 11.5 paired up with the Warden, I like'em gets the gun flat. I didn't think they were overly loud with or without the Warden on. I did notice a slight zero shift once the Warden was used.

I got a 7.62 one ordered it when they first came out last year!
They and the 5.56 FH/ sup adapter are in VERY HIGH demand. Surefire is severely back logged on these right now. They are available, but go quickly
Received shipping stays today! I can't wait to try it out and I have my PA washer kit ready to go.
Anybody know if there's an update on the release of the closed tine version?
I had one on back order from February, just received it a couple days ago. I hadn't heard of a closed tine version. Is there supposed to be a difference in performance?

Not sure about its performance I'm just hoping for a shorter alternative when I don't wanna throw on my three prong.

Don't think the Closed tine warcomp is gonna happen. I know the flash hider/ supp. Adapter closed tine version is a no-go- as per their Mil sales team
Is there a way to time the warcomp to make it lefty-friendly? My understanding is that the ports are configured for right-handed shooters.

Yes, you would just time the ports to the left side and top
ExplorinInTheWoods
06-07-16, 05:56
they have instructions on how to time it for lefties
If you shoot mostly righty, but practice lefty too, how will timing if for righty effect the lefty shooting?

Muzzle will push away from your support hand if you have it set up for a righty and shoot lefty. Not sure how bad though as I'm still waiting for one.

I have two of them. The one on my SR-15 seems fine, although is not as effective as my precision armament AFAB. I need it for my suppressor (in jail) though.
I put the other one on my precision AR and it started effecting accuracy:

I have since replaced it with another muzzle device and accuracy is the same as bare muzzle. I think it has something to do with the unbalanced pressure in the chamber of the warcomp since one side is vented and the other side is not.

I am curious as to whether or not the non-directional porting of the closed-tine Warcomps would do better.

Oh wow, thanks for that.
In all fairness though, I think it only really matters at the extreme point of accuracy. I have not noticed a change in accuracy in my 3-gun rifle (18" douglas barrel) and in a recent ammo test, was able to shoot 10 round groups averaging 1.2 MOA and mean radius of .41" (Molon's calculations) with the warcomp.
I happen to be aiming for .5 MOA for my DMR rifle, which is the one that shot the groups pictured above. My other rifles without that level of accuracy requirement seem to be fine with the warcomp. I'm sure this does not affect only the warcomp either.

Interesting. I have one on an M4A1 contour 16" barrel and it has turned in some sub MOA 10 shot groups.
Maybe I should test it with a bare muzzle.
And I just had my WarComp pinned on...
I just checked SF's site and didn't see any of the new flash hiders. I guess it's a call and order sort of thing?
Apparently the closed tine SF flash hider/ suppressor adapter does exist now. Not on SF's site yet

Very interesting.
I wonder what actions, if any, will be taken by SF to mitigate this issue.
Can anyone call tomorrow and ask about the reports and ordering the closed tine? I have a six hour time difference that makes it a huge pain in the ass.

Just got off the phone with SF and I was told you can order the closed tine on the phone but they don't know when they'll be ready to ship, and the man I spoke to said it could be months. I decided I'll call back in a couple weeks and make my order but you can definitely do it now.
Can't tell from the picture, but does the closed time unit still have vents on top and right side or did they kill that idea?

Sorry, what I mean was killing the idea of the ports on the side of the device and keeping only the ones on top to try and mitigate muzzle rise.

Sorry, what I mean was killing the idea of the ports on the side of the device and keeping only the ones on top to try and mitigate muzzle rise. The SoldierSystems article clearly states that closed-tine Warcomp has "neutral porting", so I would think that's exactly what it means.
I have no idea where the information of who designed the Warcomp is coming from. Jerry Head had no involvement in the designs or any part of it. Mike Voigt and Barry Dueck designed it as I was part of it as well and even named it. There is not a accuracy issue with the Warcomp and the bullet passes the chamber before the gases enter and expand thru the ports. Some tiny amounts of gas might leak around the bullet before uncorking but nothing that would effect stability. It has the same chamber principle as the muzzle break which is really accurate. We have not had any issues with accuracy with the Warcomp and neither has the military who has been getting the bulk of the production. If you get accuracy issues a couple things to check. Make sure you do not go over 30ft/lb torque because you can constric the bore ar the crown doing so. Use an alignment rod to check and see if the threads are cut concentric to the bore. Companies do cut threads to the barrel and not the bore at times and the bore typically is not dead center to the profile. This causes the bullet to be closer to one side or the other in the muzzle device and THAT can cause issue let alone strike inside a suppressor if it is bad enough.

Frankly looking at some targets shot before and after installing the Warcomp on my M4A1, the targets with the Warcomp are either the same or better depending on the load.

Thanks for the input. Didn't sound like you guys to put out a product with issues like those claimed.
Anyone have any comparison to a BCM comp? I don't really need a suppressor mount at the moment, but it looks kind of badass. I need to replace the brake on my Noveske before I rock a bunch of other shooters next week.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have used the BCM comp and currently use the Warcomp (I have a SF silencer). The Warcomp is no louder or more annoying than the BCM. If I didn't want to be able to use my silencer on all my rifles the BCM comp worked great and I prefer it to the Battlecomp a bit. The Warcomp is good stuff, seems to handle well and other than the tines ringing a bit (not that big of a deal to me) it is an excellent flash/comp.
What are the advantages of closed tines other than not acting as a tuning fork?
One advantage I see is they don't focus the muzzle blast causing blast baffle cutting. That said, I've never seen one cut through.

Snag risk. Overall weight is lower, too.

With a closed prong FH, you won't break the FH from busting auto glass or other hard, straight impacts.

its also shorter if that matters to you, and has wrench flats so easier to install.
it does though have less holes to help mitigate recoil, i believe it has the same pattern on top as the traditional warcomp, but none on the side
main thing i noticed its lighter and shorter

Open tine flash hiders out perform closed ones almost all of the time. The reason for the closed tine is for durability.
We have had more than a few issues with open tine designs.

Didn't know that. Does the open tine have the tuning fork ping? And I thought the closed tine was supposed to change the porting to be more neutral whereas the open somewhat favored right handed shooters.

My open fh (not warcomp) pings, but it's short lived, similar to the action spring.
Maybe it's just me, but I always thought the complaints about the ping were way over played... especially considering the gunshot.

I don't think I've heard a Surefire but I had an AAC Blackout on my first AR and it drove me nuts. The BCM comp is much more satisfying to listen to haha.

I've had Vortex and AAC 3 Prong and the ting sound just sounds to me like precision engineering! The fact that they can cut a piece of metal so accurately that it gives off a small tuning fork ting sound is just amazing! Kind of like the sound of a Garand clip popping, just part of doing business. I don't mind it at all and sort of enjoy it. I have a SF Warcomp to test now and it does not make a ting... I kind of miss the ting sound :-(
