Cambridge MA. Meanwhile, American Indians could care less at this point but for affluent self important yippies in Cambridge, they feel much better about themselves. I'd like to know how many American Indians were consulted on that?
Columbus Day now Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Cambridge
The Cambridge City Council has voted unanimously to change Christopher Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Councilor Nadeem Mazen, who proposed the idea, said it is important to reclaim the day for Native Americans, thousands of whom were killed under Columbus’s leadership when he came to the New World.
At a committee meeting and public hearing on May 26, several Cambridge citizens and advocates for indigenous people showed up and supported the change, Mazen said.
“We had a fantastic discussion on the history of Columbus Day and the importance of Italian-Americans in our community,” he said at the Monday meeting.
Some people see the holiday change as a slight to Italian-American heritage, since Columbus was born in Genoa,

To do this detracts from the accomplishments of white European Americans.
Without them, I wouldn't have guns, white girls, cars, smart phones, rock music, or everything else.

When my Dad retired from the Military he had a couple different "Jobs" one of them was a small time house flipping operation and because we ended up in the Chicago area I met a few "Pauly's". My Dad showed me how to fold a Franklin in my hand to pass it to a Inspector in order to get your stamp without him entering the building.
The funny thing is these were in general very patriotic and like-able guys on the surface. I got a union job one summer for helping someones Mother with her groceries and her yard work. I also saw a "Pauly" walk a guy to the edge of a building for a "talk".
Those kind of guys aren't going to take pissing down the backs of their necks by F'ing with Columbus day very well.

Meh.
The only reason we have a, "Christopher Columbus Day" is because somebody decided that, "Al Capone Day" just doesn't have the same ring to it: It's the original PC holiday, devised by Italian-Americans to remind Protestant Anglo-America that Italians aren't just gangsters, wife-beating alcoholics, and Catholics.
Not sure how I feel about this so I'm going to just go ahead and be offended.

I wish these PC crowd types like this would just go the distance already and show all of us just how committed they are with their "White guilt" by taking their own lives. They really should take a page out of the People's Temple and Heaven's Gate playbooks.
The oldest known people group in the North American hemisphere are the Clovis People, they were a mixed race group comprised of wait for it . . . wait for it . . . ancient Europeans (aka White people) who crossed sea ice during the last glacial maximum and Asians who crossed over from you guessed it Asia by way of the Bearing land bridge.
Over four hundred years before Columbus were the Chinese and the Vikings had them beat by centuries. Not to mention a few other people groups that left behind artifacts in what is now the CONUS.
So they "could care less" or they "couldn't care less"? I think it's the later.
It should be viking appreciation day, since the growing belief is that they found the Americas first. Unless Black Velvet is handing out free pints....then it could be an interesting holiday.

I have no opinion on the thread, because I completely don't care about Columbus Day.
I would love to be a never-colonized-Native-American though.
I'd have a decent planting of crops, go fishing, or have a long walk in the woods to check my traps and snares or maybe take a deer should he become a target of opportunity.
When I get back I'd present my kill to the one (or two) ladies in my unit and they'd be genuinely appreciative like, "THANKS, KEV!" and get to processing it into food.
I'd build out my place and not have to hear about building codes or other such BS, I wouldn't be paying for 1000 dirtbags rent through affordable housing initiatives, wouldn't have to listen to whiney pampered white girls complain about non-problems, wouldn't open my mailbox to a stack of speed camera/ red light camera/ annual car tax nonsense, wouldn't have a smartphone beeping and buzzing at me, people bumping loud music, spreadsheets, or everything else.
Religion wouldn't be the least bit of an issue. It only makes sense to worship the sun anyway, since that's what makes plants grow and lays the foundation for the food chain which allows us to exist. Also, I've spent many damp early mornings praying for BOB to show up.
It also wouldn't bother me not having a written language, because I prefer that my ancestors retell my epic legacy in the form of song anyway (and it better damn rhyme!).

I mean, I'm mixed Cherokee and literally grew up in the Capital of the Chickasaw Nation. My mom was a HS classmate of the current Chickasaw Chief. There is a yearly pow-wow in Seminole that I've been to numerous times, but I have no interest in it anymore.
Heritage is great. But it does not define me. My dads side are the Indians...my mom is a white girl born in Cali.
It's just always been easier to identify with the prune-pickers, honestly. Unless they give me a piece of the casinos, then I'm growing my hair back out.
