New to the forums, will start out with this. Picked this AR up from my LGS last week, ran four boxes of 5.56 55 grain rounds through her yesterday. No optics yet, plan on getting a Vortex Spitfire 3x soon, was hitting a small steel target out at 500 yards with the magpul mbus peep sight, I am very pleased with this carbine out of the box.

500m with the MBUS?

That's pretty impressive, considering it's a non-adjustable sight.

Welcom.

Thanks guys, I had a couple people spotting me, one old timer told me where to hold. that helped a lot :) I love our shooting community, nice folks. I'm sure the Spitfire 3x will help some , I will get a range report out when I get it.

It's adjustable for windage but not range, I had to use the old "Kentucky" method.

I was curious, my extractor doesn't have the o-ring on the extractor spring, I ordered some. I would have thought they would have come installed from the factory. Is that hit and miss from Colt? It works great without it, I guess they are more for automatic or burst mode?

My Magpul edition M4/6920 is my favorite rifle.

Do NOT install an O ring in your extractor. The O ring was a temporary fix. Colt has long since solved the problem with a better spring. Your 6920 should have the improved extractor spring with the black polymer insert. Adding an O ring will make the extractor spring too stiff

What type of extractor spring does it have?

Chances are it doesn't need an o ring

Yeah, you don't need an O ring with that.

The front sight is adjustable for elevation.

I think in this context he means not adjustable for different ranges, not just initial zeroing.

No need, these guns run perfectly fine from the factory, don't fix it if it ain't broke.

I meant for elevation, such as the Match or KAC offerings, or the Carry handle style.

I would say a weapon light and red dot like an Aimpoint PRO would be next on your list
if this will be used for home defense.

I've been trying to decide on a red dot or a 3x scope, also maybe a red dot and a magnifier. decisions decisions. I'm looking at home defense, I have a H&K P30 as my nightstand weapon, also considering my Mossberg 590A1. But a 30 round pmag in my Colt gives me more rounds without reloading, not that I would have to use that much, it's comforting at least to that degree.

I suggest that you pick up an Aimpoint first, and then later down the road one of their 3x or 6x magnifiers for the extra range.
