I did various searches with no finds and I "thumbed" through about 50+ pages of Glock images and nothing jumped out at me.

they go by a couple of names.....ledge flats, accelerator cuts, side texture, etc....

I need a place for my big ol "dumb" and before I go grinding, texturing or pushing....just have a request for info/pics.

I read a post (not recent) from Kyle Defoor where he aggressively-heavy textures the support hand thumb area and pushes material to give the thumb a wider platform but still able to keep it within the confines of his holsters. I am not ready to heat up my iron and driving it in my frame with a 5 lbs sledge just yet. (just kidding KD)

Side texture (stippling) is not enough for me. in fast drills, I feel my support hand thumb moving.

I have a G19 where I did my own accelerator cuts and a buddy is going to fine texture for me (he has it and patiently waiting for it), but I am working on a older G17 Gen 3 that I carry on duty and it just has side texture.

I want to grind or heat an object to push a corner or ledge for thumb placement, but before I do.....just want to see if anyone who has been there and done that have any do's or dont's.

pics please and horror jobs are ok to post

I will wait for my G19 first to see who that turned out (to play it safe) but the ledges are very wide but hoping the texture along with the corner will keep my thumb in place.

I am aware businesses won't give away secrets.....mainly looking for home jobbers!:sarcastic:

thanks in advance

No help on the texturing, but one of the most helpful things I've learned is to keep the firing hand thumb neutral... When you're thumbs forward, putting pressure on your support hand will only help to push your support thumb off the frame under recoil.

Don't know if you're doing that, but if you are, might be worth trying differently before you go to a more involved frame modification.

My issued Gen 3 G19 fits my hand like a glove. Recoil control feels much better than the G17. with my own accelerator cuts, it felt good but needed texture for more bite.

I will test further before I attempt any material removal.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Mr. Owens of Cold Bore Customs refers to them as the "forward frame flats", which I think is as good of a name as any. I had him do a full texture job on my lone non-RTF2 G17 a few years ago, using varied textures in different places, but with a fairly rough texture (perhaps his roughest?) on these flats. Not ledges in any way, but the stippling there makes a HUGE difference for me, so much so that (some day) I'm going to send off some of my G19s to him (or someone with a similarly high quality reputation) for similar treatment. Even my RTF2 G17s could use aggressive stippling on those flats. [on edit: points taken on grip style & pressure points made above - definitely bears consideration]

I can snap a hi-res photo if that would be helpful, but there are probably better ones on his website or on the websites of other accomplished polymer sculptors.

ON EDIT #2: check out Mr. Defoor's forward flat stippling at the bottom of this page (4/25/16 post): http://kyledefoor.tumblr.com/page/3

I do this as well. My thumb has very little pressure on the gun. It's not holding itself there, the gun recoil and returns to original position.
