View Full Version : Which flip up rear sight?

I have a A3 upper that I would like to take the carry handle off and replace it with a decent flip up rear sight (later I would like to buy an EoTech or ACOG).

What is a decent rear flip sight?

I do not want to buy the most expensive (Tier 1) I would be happy for a moderate sight. This is going on a Bushmaster after all :D and I only paid $650 for the whole rifle...

Thanks,
Cameron

MI Emergency BUIS. Without a doubt, the "best value".

Maybe not the best overall, but damn good for a basic carbine.

Does it have to be a flip up? I just cut my carryhandle down and rounded it off with a dremel and fome files. Works great with my aimpoint in a larue mount.

For a flip up BUIS I prefer the Arms 40L.

Does that always pop up with the small aperature?

Dollar for dollar, the MI is the best value IMHO.

The best flip up BUIS IMHO, is the Troy, followed by the KAC 300M, then the ARMS #40L-SP.

Ive used mostly the KAC 300 and 600m BUIS's and like them alot. I have some exp with the GGG flip up and dont like it, its just too busy.

Im playing with an ARMS Swan Sleeve at the moment and had some trouble getting the flip up BUIS that is part of the package to zero. Once again way too busy it seems.

The cheapest thing to do is just cut your carry handle, but then thats not a flip up.

In this case, best is the enemy of good enough. KAC 300m sights work pretty well and can be found used for $80 or less; save your money (see sig line).:D

Grant, is the ARMS 40L-SP a same plane sight? I am assuming the SP stands for same plane. What colors are they available in?

What do you think about the Matech Buis?

Does it have to fold? Because you can get a fixed LaRue buis for $85.

For flip ups I only like Troy (they'll fit under an ACOG too). I much prefer stand alone rear sights and my favorite is Larue. I only use flip ups on guns that have magnified optics (because they'll fit under them). If I''m running an Aimpoint or Eotech it'll have a Larue rear.

I've always had great service from the ARMS #40 and #40L.

They are not the most expensive and not the cheapest.

IMHO, they work well and are high quality.

Gotta say my ARMS 40 has been working for me all these years (it was top Dog with no competition when I bought it) and it had not given me a reason to replace it yet, but if I buy another BUIS for another project, I would pick up a Troy. I hear PRI just released a new Flip up also.

I don't Like Clutter in my field of view, so a flip up is mandatory for me.:)

I don't like elevation adjustable BU's either. more Sh*$ to go wrong and I don't make 600 meters shots with a 14.5" carbine.

In the past I had an ARMS 40, and it was alright. Not the quality I expected. It was very hard to turn the windage and when you flipped apitures it click the windage once. Right now I have a Troy on my LMT MRP and a Knights 300M that is going to go on my LMT 10.5 as soon as my SBR paperwork gets in.

And if you flip the small aperature down and try to use the big one, the really... entertaining.... thing is that the small aperature on the 40L pops back up with every shot if used on a gun with any recoil (like a .50 beowulf).

Clicking the windage when flipping between apertures???? Has anyone else experienced this? I like the #40L because it gets out of the way and I haven't had any problems with it holding a zero. Being that it's behind an Aimpoint CompM3, I'm hoping not to have to use it often aside from the occasional zero check.
