I will be passing through Las Vegas next month. I have about a day to kill but no more. Is there anything worth seeing or doing that won't cost very much?

There are some nice local parks but most of them are going to be HOT in July. Red Rock Canyon west of town and Valley of Fire to the NE are two I'm thinking of. You will need sunscreen and lots of water - a gallon plus - if you visit either one.

If you like hiking, Mt. Charleston is pretty nice and has trails from easy to moderate. It's about 30-35 miles NW of town, a fair drive. It is at somewhat higher elevation and won't be nearly as hot.

"The Gun Store Las Vegas" offers machinegun rentals starting in the $35 range (last I knew), but if you've shot full auto before you may find it a bit dull to shoot at 10 yards with just one or a few mags.

Just wandering the Strip and casinos is interesting and costs nothing. Watch your wallet (pickpockets) and don't try it drunk.

I don't know if this can be done on short notice, but there are tours of the Nevada Test Site (nuclear test site) provided by DOE. I think the cost is zero or modest. When I did it - 20 years ago - you had to book in advance and they ran a mini background check on you, and it was limited to US citizens. I don't know what the requirements are now. If you have an entire day and nothing else sounds worthwhile, check that out. It's a fascinating place to visit, and not many people do. The tours start and end in Las Vegas and a charter bus takes you there. Leave cameras behind - I imagine that also includes phones today.

Uh yeah man! But you should borrow money and double it at the blackjack table. Or lose it all. Whatever.

Free Stuff:
Walk through the Venetian to see the canals and grand square, I like this place best for clean family fun. Bellagio water show at night. Walk through Paris. I am sure there are other cool things to see at the other hotels.

There used to be a car museum at the Imperial Palace, can't remember what it cost. Or go the that range that rents full auto.

Hoover Dam - a few hours if you do the tour
National Atomic Testing Museum - 60-90 min, depending on if you just walk through or read everything and look at all the stuff
Watch the Bellagio fountain and explore the strip - you have to eat eventually, might as well eat at a buffet
Red Rock Canyon if you like being really hot and enjoy seeing rocks that are red - 60-120+ min depending if you get out of the car or just drive around and look at red-ish rocks
Lots of golf courses if you don't mind heat stroke - you'll probably die so don't do this
Shooting ranges, both indoor with machine gun rentals (~$50 per magazine) and outdoor ranges where you can bring your own stuff and do whatever, or indoor and BYOG, or go into the desert and blow up tannerite or shoot to 1000m+ - 5 seconds for machine gun rentals, a few hours if you bring water and a canopy and shoot slowly with a bolt action

Idk man, lots of stuff

It's been a while since I've seen them, but their show was really awesome. Even when they slow a trick down and show you step by step, when they go full speed, you're still amazed

Penn & Teller was amazing and not too much. If you're in Vegas and can't afford it, I'd consider treating a M4C member of good standing :p

I killed off the Legion AND the NCR. No gods, no masters, just boomers and old Enclave geezers. Oh, and the place I shoot in the desert (in real life) is right next to the jail just south of where you start the game.

My dad got tickets for both of us to go to their show in Vegas. They were great. Best live show I've ever been to.

I ended up on stage for their final trick, because they were looking for a volunteer that knew something about guns. I won't ruin it for you, but it was spectacular. Still don't know how they did it - unless they really did it. They let me keep the bullet and case - and stood in the lobby and signed our tickets after.

Sight seeing doesn't cost a dime. Start walking from one end of the fancy hotels part of the strip to the other end. You can start from the north (Wynn/Encore) and head south toward Mandalay Bay or south to north, doesn't matter. Wynn, Venetian, Caesars (and the Forum shops next to Caesars), Paris, Bellagio and its fountain, Cosmopolitan, MGM, Luxor and Mandalay, they're all unique and cool. Collect hookers cards from the Mexicans, just don't call those numbers, LOL. When hungry eat at the Caesars or Bellagio, either the huge buffets or restaurants. That should kill one day easy.

You don't have to gamble a penny to have fun.

This guy is on to something here...

Mt. Charleston is a nice way to get out of the heat and would be my choice if your are not into wading through tourists on the strip. Alternatively, take a walk around downtown, a lot has changed. Check out the container park down there.

Red Rocks park, walking the strip, seeing the inside of the big hotels, etc. None of them charge admission.

Go train at Sergio Penha's BJJ Academy! http://sergiopenha.com

Not too many 7th degree red and black belts out there. He's a really nice guy, very funny, and he's an encyclopedia of BJJ. There are a lot of very high level black belts there and everyone is very welcoming and friendly. No tough guy attitudes or assholes.

I used to train there when I lived in Vegas and I would highly recommend Sergio and crew to anyone looking to train in BJJ.

Never thought about that. But I'm sure people would pay to run cat equipment. Pretty novel idea I think.

Back to the op, Vegas is great. On no money.........well........good luck. Walk around the strip I guess. I wouldn't subject myself to a no Money in Vegas kind of torture .

Maybe go sell blood plasma and semen. I would. Then take that money and go to the buffet at the Wynn for breakfast. Best $50 breakfast you'll have in your life.

You could stop by the Pawnstars shop and sell some family heirlooms.
