I would suggest you save something because you may not be able to buy (not legally anyway) what you lost thanks to a combination of panic buying and the erosion of 2nd Amendment rights.

Is this a humblebrag thread?

Were I shallow, I'd say my SR-25 and an HK pistol.

But really I would take heirlooms as I could, like Euro said, replace anything else with insurance money.

They aren't fancy or super valuable but I'd rather keep them in good shape.

Nah, I'm genuinely curious what people would take. Lots on here have collections that make me sob with jealousy, I'm just a mere peasant. Damnit now I need an sr 25

The old Winchester 94 my dad gave me and my great uncle's S&W .38

The rest is newer stuff and can be replaced.

First and foremost I would make sure my family was able get out and be safe. Everything else is a material item and can be replaced.

If I had extra time to grab stuff. I would grab my external hard drive with all of our family's important docs and photos from the last 20 years. Then if time allowed I would prob grab my SR25.

Its funny that OP made this thread, as we had a fire scare on Thursday afternoon. Turns out something in the ac handler failed and was flowing smoke and mist through the ac vents, couldn't see 10 ft. in front of you. Everyone know what to do, everything went smoothly, etc. I cleaned out my safe in 2min! ( I watched the cameras to get a time frame) I ran out the house with my plate carrier thrown on, two rifle cases over both of my shoulders and man handling 4 ammo cans full to the brim. You can imagine what the look on the neighbors faces....We had 4 ladder trucks and 16 firefighters respond in less than 7 min.

My SBR and 1911 are the closest to grab, so I'd get them, the family, and the dogs. The SBR I'd really worry about because it would take months for another tax stamp to replace it, and the 1911 because I can take it everywhere without freaking people out. When it comes right down to it, they are the closest two to grab, and I'd worry about the family and dogs more than anything.

^^^ Winner! ^^^

My kid works for USAA on the property and home owner phones. If you have USAA, you should have a rider for your firearms (and any other valuables i.e. jewlery, art, collectibles, et al). Be sure to take good pictures and keep an inventory. Art and jewlery should be appraised every two years if you want to make sure you get full value...old appraisals hurt you on a claim.

There is a mod on here, I can't remember which one, but one of his buddies got burglarized before he even made his first premium payment and USAA reimbursed his firearm collection within a few weeks after he made his claim. I opened my policy the same day I heard that. It couldn't have been easier.

I ask because I'm a deployer by trade and will be doing a 100% inventory of my stuff for this very purpose. Living in FL and in a flood zone makes my house insurance pretty pricey so I'm shopping around. I have USAA for auto but that's about it.

Just FYI, and you may already know this, but your Homeowners insurance and Flood insurance are NOT the same. The easiest way to explain it is like this...if the water damage comes from the sky down, you are covered by homeowners insurance (rain, snow, hurricane winds and rain, etc.). If water damage is cause by water coming from the ground up, it's covered by flood insurance (storm surge, swollen river, broken waterline, etc.)

So if, during a hurricane, the wind rips your roof off and rain trashes your home, homeowners insurance covers you.

But if, during a hurricane, your home is damaged by a storm surge and/or flooding, your homeowners will not cover you (at least not the majority of the damage), and your flood insurance (if you have it) will cover you.

Flood insurance is sold by FEMA (USAA is a go-between). Homeowners insurance is a separate thing. The two do NOT overlap.

I've been a USAA member since 2001, and I am extremely happy with them. I use them for banking, investing (brokerage acct), and insurance (home, vehicle, umbrella, flood). I've had several vehicle claims, and they were very quick to resolve my issues.

My kid has only worked for them for less than a year, and loves it. She grew up as a military brat, so she can relate, and she gets lots of great feedback from her clients. She's helped me fix some gaps in coverage we had. But some lessons she's learned are worth sharing...

1. If you carry a laptop around or have kids in college, get the computer rider. Your computers are covered by your homeowners insurance, but with a high deductible. The computer rider brings down the deductible significantly.

2. If you have valuables like art/jewelry, get it appraised and keep the appraisals current. Also, you need to keep your jewlery in good repair for full reimbursement. For example, if you have a5 year old $10K diamond ring that you've never had cleaned and inspected by a professional jeweler, bring it in. And USAA has top tier professional jewelers on staff who repair and appraise jewelry. They are there as a service to USAA members, not sure what services may cost.

3. Take inventory and keep good records with pictures of your valuables. Purchase dates, purchase price, serial and model numbers, etc.

1. Dogs out the door and into the car.
2. Front door open or front window broken out.
3. Photo albums and other irreplaceable items on front lawn.
4. Open first safe and start toss shit onto the front lawn.
5. Move to next safe, repeat as capable.
6. Footlocker with my grandfathers flag and other items is literally at the front door and gets drug out with me on last trip.

USAA--Phuckin' awesome after Katrina. However, there has been a recent uptick in customer complaints over the past couple of yrs. We had two horrible, horrible experiences with USAA on auto claims for wrecks that we were not at fault in. Neither had insurance.

So we switched insurance co.'s and haven't looked back. We do use them for Life Ins. since they also have a bank and can will automatically put policy proceeds into an interest bearing acct. if the beneficiary, for whatever reason, is delayed in taking possession. Other ins. co.'s will do some unsavory sh-t in these situations.

I DO NOT recommend using riders for firearms, at all. The devil is in the details when it's time to cut a check, or they simply deny the claim and you are SOL. They can make you jump through hoops that are needle eye sized. Most people have no clue how insurance works and think they just have a check cut. May, or may not, work that way. Or, you may have to go out, re-purchase, and send receipts to ins. co. for reimbursement which they can disagree with on price(should have bought elsewhere), and only pay you a percentage of what you actually spent. Make sure you have REPLACEMENT value, not current market.

Get a specific policy through the NRA or use Collectibles Insurance. If not familiar with CI, you need to do some due diligence and then get a policy.

Eurodriver
06-26-16, 15:06
6933 I can't deny you've had issues with usaa but the firearms specific policies are good to go and easy to use. I upload all of my items individually with a time stamped photograph and the receipt of the item. This includes NFA items.

I'm not sure how it works with older collectible firearms, everything I own can be bought on the market today and values are readily obtainable, but speaking about their firearm coverage it is squared away.

If I'm awake, whatever handgun or handguns are on my person. Get the dog out. If I have time, grab the "battle belt" and retro middy.

If I'm asleep, whatever handgun is on/in the night stand goes in the "battle belt" which goes around the waist, then grab the phone, a change of clothes, and my wallet, throw everything I'm taking with me out the window (including the retro middy) and exfil with the dog.

Either way, check to make sure that the roommate's out (if he isn't at his girlfriend's place) once the dog and I are out, then dial 911. If necessary, I can smash out my roommate's bedroom window to get him and/or his girlfriend out.

I have enough drychem to get a knock on anything that sets off my fire alarms then a 100ft 3/4" garden hose to protect that 1 room if need be.

Howdy,

Easy. Beretta 93R and Beretta 93R.

You should be sleeping with the 93R in it's shoulder holster.

If my house is on fire I am fighting the fire not grabbing guns.

I don't think guns would even make the list. I would want to have at least one one me as we hit the door. I have three kids. They're number one. Threads like this remind me what maters. I like my guns but they're just tools and toys. I don't have anything irreplaceable. I have a several guns in my bedroom, if I was home alone I might grab them. I also have fire extinguishers in the house. I'd be more likely to grab one of those. I have insurance. I'll look into a rider today. But stuff is just stuff. The kids and the dog into the car if possible. What about tax stamps? If the gun items are destroyed. Anyone have first hand experience.

Now that I've thought about this a while I may end up storing some of my guns at another, undisclosed location =). I have duplicates but replacing the SBR's would take months.
