Markm loaded up some 4350 338 loads for one of my Elk guns. We were struggling getting any decent velocity with 4831. The 4350 pushed the 225 accubond 2865 with SD OF 7.

It grouped about an inch. We suspect Huge shooter error , using hunting gun on akward bench today.

Just wondered what velocity you guys have gotten with 225 grain bullets in 338 WM. I was very pleased with 2865.

338WM guys hit me back.

That is a hot load... not too hot mind you but that does represent a legitimate max load/velocity for that bullet weight. If it is shooting that well, keep on trucking.

In comparison, I was using Norma MRP or RL22 and was maybe just a skosh slower (~20fps) than your figure. I would have to go revisit my notes on the loads and etc. for the particulars.

Question on edit: Was that a moly coated Accubond? If so that could account for the extra fps. The 4350, IMO, represents a "fast" powder for that bullet weight. So for that type of speed keep an eye on pressure signs... but I know I don't have to tell you that.

No Moly coated bullets. Just regular white tip Accubonds. Not familiar with their moly coated variety.

I shoot 130 grain factory Winchester ballistic tips in my rem 700 hunting rifle in 270 Winchester. But that's my only experience with moly coatings.

That's funny... because I use the 115gr Win ballistic tips in my rem 700 BDL in .25-06. While not the fastest load, it is easily the most accurate for me. Right around 1/2" groups.

I couldn't believe the velocities we were getting. Yet... no signs of pressure. No swipes, pan caked primers, or anything. These velocities are at the muzzle using a magneto speed chrono.
