View Full Version : Ruger LW Commander
Just announced.
Anyone seen one yet?

No, but based on my great affection for my .45 cal version of the same pistol, this one is on my "list". Mine has just been perfect.

I have the full sized 5" Ruger 1911 and I love it. My next handgun purchase is/was going to be a full sized metal framed 9mm, as I only have polymer 3" +4" 9's. This now throws a wrench into my plans...........my short list was a SA Inc. Range officer Operator in 9mm, or a Beretta 92FS
Guns are popping up for sale on GunBroker.com and are hovering around the $750-$775 range.
For not too much more--or maybe even a little less depending on model--I can get a Colt LW Commander. Still, I like the look of the new Ruger and have been very pleased with my previous SR1911 experiences.
I will continue to monitor prices and as soon as I can find a pistol for less than $700 I'll buy it.
Does this pistol use a ramped barrel???

Yes, I have seen picture of it disassembled and it sure looks ramped to me.

I saw my first specimen today at Cabela's. The trigger had a small glitch about halfway through but broke fairly cleanly. The grip safety felt a little sloppy and slide to frame fit was a little loose as can be common on production grade 1911's.
The 2-tone finish is more a gray on gray and looks pretty nice.
I would have bought it except for the Cabela's price. It was about $150 above where it should be.
I'm hoping this will lead to a CCO-sized Ruger 1911.

No reason it shouldn't. Ruger appears to be solidly behind the 1911 family.
Hopefully they'll skip the Officer and go right to the CCO.

Yes, and in 9mm

We have one at our shop. It looks and feels solid. Slide is buttery smooth and the finish looks good. Waiting on someone to buy it so we can hear results!
I look forward to ypur range report

Either you are like me and inexplicably buy a holster for every handgun you own, or you are having some great success with the new Ruger.
When you can, please fill us in on how the range trips are going.
...inexplicably buy a holster for every handgun you own...
I always seem to buy a holster even if it is an inexpensive Kydex or something. I really find it hard to pass final judgment on a handgun without being able to carry it around a little and/or see how it feels and points when drawn.
Anyway, we have about 250 rounds through the Ruger now. I saw "we" because I've had a few co-workers pop a few rounds through it. We've all had good luck with it as far a reliability and there have been no failures to lock open, etc. So far the gun has seen WWB, Tula, reloads, Altanta Arms 115gr JHP match and some Ruger +P ARX ammo. It has fed and fired everything.
With that said, I have been using two Tripp 10rd mags with the gun and haven't yet tried the 2 9rd factory mags it shipped with. It may or may not make a difference in the feeding and reliability department.

Is that a ramped barrel?
Have you been able to give this a good flogging yet?
I havnt bought a Ruger handgun in a long time. This may change that
I just bought one today, put around 150 rounds through it. Other than the grip screws coming loose there were no problems. I shot HP's, ball and TC bullets. Also it is dead on accurate. Great gun.
