What are the advantages of placing the qd sling swivels in different places? Is there a difference from attaching a sling to a side sling swivel on the FSB (how 6920 comes) vs. attaching the sling to the rail (larue or omega). Also by attaching it to the stock or a castle nut type sling attachment.

I run my guns with the front sling swivel near the upper receiver on the rail or FF tube. And I run the rear attachment at the lower receiver end plate. I use the excellent Daniel Defense end plate and rail connector.

I run the guns this way because it gives me the best of both worlds using a 2 point BFG 2 point Vickers sling. It drops nicely for transitioning to my handgun without bouncing around like a fish out of water and it allows me to switch shoulders like a single point sling (without the sling coming across my neck) to transition to my left shoulder I just have to lift the stock slightly to clear the sling. I have not seen a single point that can rapidly be made smaller or larger as needed. The Vickers 2 point can change from small to large, large to small in a second.

If you are going to run a FF rail system, it doesn't make much sense to me to use the FSB as a sling mounting point.

Aside from hard contact with the barrel and related issues- the further toward the muzzle the forward point of the sling is mounted the more outboard the muzzle will point when the gun is hands-free. This can be bad for several reasons or may be completely transparent- completely depending on your use and method.

The further toward the toe the rear portion of the sling is mounted the more difficulty you will have in bringing the gun in and around for manipulations, tighten tension against the throat during cross-body or support-side presentation, and lower hang height.

The best tactical layout is pictured and explained above by gotM4. Then again, that lay-out would get you laughed off the range at a highpower competition.

It's all about employment.

Grant recommended the same configuration for my LMR MRP as well, with the DD Rear receiver QD Swivel. I like it, especially for a shorter guy like me, I can pull the rifle higher with the stock closer to my chin when not in use.
