After reloading about 50-75 rounds, the powder funnel begins to stick in the cases, very rough on the upstroke. I tried tumbling them extra, like 5 hrs in Walnut media, and it's still happening. I keep wiping it off and it's fine for a while, but getting annoying. I don't remember it doing this before, but Im still pretty new so maybe didn't notice?

Only thing I can think of is I switched to S&B primers, and I haven't caged media recently, but it still looKS the same color as the new stuff still in the bag.

Reloading .40, unique powder, dillon 550 with factory dies/funnel.

Pics note, the rim wipes off, the smudges need scrubbed a bit to remove.:

I think that's normal. I can remember getting sticking and resistance on the upstroke when running pistol brass through the powder station. Try some modern powder too. Are you SS media tumbling your brass? It could be a combo of less than spotless brass, and that grampa Unique powders.

Well, I bought 8lbs so I gotta work through it.
What's a solid pistol powder, bullseye?

Unique is a good target pistol powder, but shoots dirty. Bullseye is decent target pistol powder, especially for .38 Special and .45 ACP.

Winchester 540 was my favorite .40 S&W powder, but it was discontinued. I believe HS-6 burns similar to Win 540. If HS-6 is not available, I prefer Unique over Bullseye to reload .40 S&W.

Does the reloader exhibit dragging on the case mouth if there is brass only on the powder stage ? If that is the case, I would call Dillon Precision.

I think mine drags fairly regularly. For powders... I like any WIN or Hodgdon. Bullseye/Unique/Hercules, etc. Old fat guy powders that annoy me. Herc was the first powder I ever reloaded with many many years ago. Almost made me give up reloading because the ammo was so messy and lame.

T2C, it only drags after noticable buildup. After wiping, it's really smooth.

Thanks for the input guys.

I just looked at all of my Dillon pistol die setups.None of them have the buildup that you are showing.Maybe you were sent the wrong powder funnel,I would call Dillon and tell them the problem you are having. My dies have seen thousands of rounds and are over 20 years old, maybe they changed the plating that they use.
