This is evidently their new, perfected, can't miss effort. Anyone have one of their previous attempts?:

I like the bit about, "unforeseen challenges in manufacturing".

Like making sure the rear sight fits the dovetail for the rear sight.

ETA: It's bigger than the Glock 43, M&P Shield, Walther PPS M2, and Ruger LC9s. But it's still smaller than a SiG P225 or SAI XDs 4.0.

Shouldn't it be the R51"S"? Like Apple does.

It's got some issues still from some of the reports.

Lots of FTE, bulging cases (albeit further down the brass). Poor manufacturing of internal parts, wrong pin installed on one. Looks like poor steel hardening on the lugs of the bolt or poor finishing of the lugs on the frame causing serious wear, 'could be both.

Sights not fixed, just added set screws front and rear. Trigger has no tactile or audible reset still. Lots of lateral trigger movement still.

In other words, buy it as a curio of the action.

I'd stick to Glock 43, PPS, Shield, etc.

If the Walther PPK had an American cousin...

If the Walther PPK had an American cousin...
The red headed bastard stepchild cousin who was dropped on its head multiple times as a kid?

The p7 was actually designed by someone who knew a little about ergos and engineering. The R51 is a gun that a marketing team put together as cheaply as possible without regard to end user safety, reliability, or you know any of the things the market wants for a cc pistol. In that respect it's kinda like the hottest girl in the club. She has great looks, feels great in the hand... but also occasionally pukes on you a few times a night.

There is nothing Freedom Group currently offers that I would buy. I'd purchase an aged, high-round-count Marlin or Remington over anything current production. And I certainly wouldn't entertain a 51 unless it was an example manufactured prior to the 1930s. YMMV.

Truly astonishing that anyone would ever even consider buying one of these given the much better alternatives available.

I will not buy one.

Would sooner get an LCP

....or Raven or Jennings or Keltec. Not necessarily in that order.

Remington need to just give up on their attempts to manufacture any pistols. They should stick to bolt guns but the sad thing is, they can't do that right anymore either. Everything has gone waaaay down hill since taken over by Freedom Group IMO. I wouldn't even think about one of these pistols, ever. There are much better options out there for someone looking for a similar sized pistol.
