I ordered a 5.56 warcomp. But this one looks different than the pictures. When they asked which warcomp I wanted (direct order over the phone), I gave them my John Wayne voice and said "I'm a cool guy. Send me that one.

Anyway, review coming in a while. Sexypaperweight for now.

Thread tite is a bit... ambiguous. Perhaps an Edit -> Change Title-> New Surefire Warcomp?

Thank you for the heads up and look forward to the review though!

Looks like an a2 with porting to prevent muzzle rise. Hope it works and gets produced in .30 also.

I believe that we already have thread on the closed-tine Warcomp.

Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the review.

Did you order from SF directly?

As an fyi you can call surefire direct to backorder. They has no clue when more would be in though

Is that the only place to order the closed-tine version?

That I do not know. I had a back order in with them for 3 of the regular warcomps and a couple socom breaks so I just changed it.

that muzzle device looks shorter than the original warcomp. Is this closed tines version approximately 1.5 inches and can it be easily pinned + welded? looking forward to the review.

Interesting. Since that device isn't even listed on their website, I wonder if you somehow got a prototype?

Let us know how it works.

Actually, it is the old FH556-212a flash hider with the porting holes added. The flash hider portion is a bit different from an A2.

Correct, and I have found it to be VERY effective, even on a 10.5" barrel. The regular Warcomp provides a bit of "glow" from the porting holes, even using M193 at night. I suspect this mount will provide 85-95% of the flash-effectiveness as the regular WC, and similar compensation. The thing I like about it is that it is lighter, the weight is shifted toward the rear, and it is non-biased. I know the biased porting on the original WC gave lefties hell. This has 3 ports to the right, and 3 to the left, of centerline, with no biases left or right. It should be a completely neutral experience regarding left/right handed shooters.

I will weigh both comps at work this weekend and post quantifiable weight differences.

A shooting review is likely going to wait until it goes on the end of the rifle, which honestly may be a while. I bought it for a very special project.

From the OP's pic it looks like it MIGHT BE a SOCOM mount WarComp. That thread pedestal and rim seems to be perfect for that.

Strike that. They're all like that anyway. Duh. I do like the closed design better. I'd like to hear how it works.

Atleast a little over 2. Website says product length is 2.67 and I assume it also needs to be timed.

I had some discount codes for optics planet so that's why. It's not a big deal since I won't get to go home and finish these builds until I'm on leave for christmas anyways.

What is this ping I see reference to in relation to the warcomp? Is it a tuning fork effect from the long tines or something?

Yes. You get a ping with pretty much every open tine flash hider due to the tuning fork effect. Some people find it annoying.

How loud are the Warcomps in comparison to a standard A2 flash hider....same, louder?

Coal Dragger

My 3 prong Warcomp seems about the same in noise level and flash suppression as an A2, it just keeps the muzzle noticeably flatter.

When I shot the war comp it was at an indoor range so any gun was loud, but it didn't throw off any noticeable side blast like the surefire brake, so if I had to guess on the loudness it's probably simillar to an A2 but you're getting better flash reduction and you can put a can on it so you don't have to worry about noise.

Agreed, though anything other than neutral is rather shortsighted to begin with in my opinion. I'm glad I waited to get one.

Thanks for the response, gents.

I'll look into these...as I'm interested in it flattening out the muzzle rise.

I have no intention of getting suppressors, so if the Warcomp was louder than the A2, then it's 'other' advantages wouldn't override that.

Again, thanks.

I'm sure it is a bit blastier, technically, but I honestly never noticed it. Run thay hornady sbr ammo through it to cancel it out ,on a technicality, lol!

I've stood to the side of my carbine with the original Warcomp and it doesn't seem that bad, even from the right side. A hell of a lot less obnoxious than some of the other muzzle devices I've been around.

Very interested in the closed tine more neutrally ported model. Maybe in a year or two they'll be in stock somewhere. LOL.

I called Surefire asking about these Closed Tine Warcomps.

They are currently out of stock. When they get them in, it is usually in small batches. Despite them no showing on their website, you can call and place an order.

Luckily I work less than 15 minutes from Surefire. So I'll be able to pick a few up once they are available. :dirol:
