I am looking for a small rail about the three inches in length to mount on my two piece carbine handguards. The key is I am looking for an offset mount so that the rail will be at about the 1-2 o'clock position on my handguards.

I did some searching but came up with nothing. Does something like this even exist?

EDIT: So far this is the only thing I have found. Its the right idea (although I only need one rail) but it is made of plastic.

Check with Warne, they used to make a cross slot mount that had the rail mounted at 90 degrees from the slot. You ended up using something like a MI or GG&G picatinny rail section mounted through the vent holes at the 12:00 position, and then you attached the Warne mount to it. IIRC it placed the offset rail section at about the 1:00 position.

Streamlight makes a short rail, and sells it as part of their "urban rifle illumination kit". It's available separately as well. Throw on a TLR-1 and you are ready for responding to bumps in the night. HTH.

How did you get this to mount in the offset position, The only stream light one I found the pic only showed it mounting in the 12 o'clock position

I put a GG&G Forearm Mounting Rail (http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=165&parents=38,47) on a gun for someone that didn't want a railed forearm. It's ok, but that's about it. It comes with all you need to mount it to the HG, including the drill-bit. You will need to get some loc-tite on your own though.

Remember that the outside tube of the HG is not parallel to the bore- the light is going to end up pointing inboard when mounted to the standard HG. Not a big deal, just be aware.

I have one of these. The design is good, but execution is extremely poor. The screw will NOT stay tight no matter if I use blue or even red loctite.

drill through the handguards.

That's what I did too. Same Streamlight rail and everything.

I wound up disliking it enough that I went to an FSB mount from MI. The rail on the handguards just put the light too far to the rear for my tastes and took up too much room on carbine-length handguards.
