Hey guys, been reloading for a little while, and finally got around to re-sizing some 300 BO brass...Heres what I'm using...
40818
I adjusted the sizing die down till I touched the shell holder, lubed the case, and this is what I get...
40819
If I back the sizer die well back off, the case looks OK, and fits fine in my Wilson case length gauge..

It seems like the expander ball is catching in the mouth and crushing the case, any clue what I'm doing wrong here?????

I dont drink and reload.

I don't NOT drink and reload... yet I've never been drunk enough to think 300 useless was viable.

They didn't run the reamer in far enough, total fail by RCBS. They will replace it.

It's not the expander b/c if it was it would still do that even when you backed it out.

Is that Moose Drool?

Just a thought. You have a 2 die set. Is it possible that the decapping rod is installed on the taper crimp die and not on the resizing die?

call rcbs and ask to rma the dies to them.

my dies size perfectly however every so often i get a shoulder pushback bulge when seating flat base bullets like the 110 vmax.

i dont know why.

i feel your pain i hope you get to the bottom of it.

It kind of looks like you're trying to size cases with the seating die. However there is no denying that you have a die with a decapping stem in it in your pictures

Thanks for the replies... The expander ball is in the right die, the other is marked "300 AAC Blk TC seat".... I think I will call RCBS, something is clearly wrong with the die/ decapping pin. If I remove the expander ball/ decapping pin I can run a case up into the die no issues. With it installed, even with the pin barely protruding, it crushes the case.

Just as an update, problem solved. I spoke to the guys at RCBS, they said that a short case like 300 BO needs to have the decapping pin protruding more out the bottom of the die than usual..He suggested about 400th of an inch. I ran it down, and now cases resize/ de prime no problem.
