So I was prowling facebook earlier tonight and noticed H&K posted this image and caption:

"So these are shipping Monday.
We might even do a giveaway with a suppressor company.
Who should it be?"

I hadn't heard anything about these being released and was surprised to see it pop up on my news feed. Does anyone have any more info on them? They look to have the same night sights as the LE version. Other than the barrel they don't appear any different.

I also came across this photo on their facebook page and noticed the grip panel has a thumb rest of some kind?

Upon searching I found a thread on one of the HK forums speaking about the grip. Apparently they are shipped over with them and removed from the gun and replaced prior to being sold (not sure how much truth there is to that). Someone in that thread mentioned they would be available on the VP9 Tactical. If so that would certainly be interesting.

Does anyone have the scoop on these and what the differences are? Overall thoughts?

The pistol is unchanged internally. It's just a threaded barrel added, really.

As for the thumb rest... what happens when you shoot the pistol with your Left hand?? I'll pass on the thumb rest.

Agreed on the thumb rest. I personally wouldn't use one. Not that options are necessarily a bad thing of course.

I was surprised to see what looked like standard night sights on the tactical version, as I figured they'd come with taller sights for suppressor use.

I figured it would be basically the same gun for the most part with the exception of a threaded barrel, but was curious if they went with a different recoil spring as it does seem fairly easy to push the slide out of battery on the VP9 (though I've never had an issue with that myself in the thousands of rounds I have through mine) . Besides from that the only thing I wish the VP9 had was a factory twenty round mag option.

I wonder what the MSRP is for the tactical. I've been looking to pick up another, so if the price is reasonable then I may snag one up.

I've been wanting to try out one of the VP9s after hearing such great things about their trigger. That thumb rest makes no sense to me though, my thumb never gets that low on the gun.

Thumb rest is ONLY for import points. Itis NOT for sale.

Looks like it is part of the side grip panel and could easily be exchanged for replacement panel if one wanted a threaded barrel.
