Welcome.

There are several threads here that discuss it in depth. It seems that most agree it is a good entry level bolt gun. You will likely be asked very soon why .308 instead of 6.5.

I have not fired one. They are supposed to be more compact than the 6.5 version (about 4" shorter and 1 pound lighter). Some initial accuracy issues were reported, as here (http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/11/tyler-kee/gun-review-ruger-precision-rifle-in-308-win/), but hopefully Ruger has fixed that by now.

Probably makes me the odd man out, but I've handled the 308 RPR versions in the LGS and with that and reading the mediocre reports about accuracy, and various other non-optimal details about issues with the handguard and folding stock, I would not recommend one. I'd buy a straight up Remmy 700, perhaps the new stainless 5r barreled tactical version as here (https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/719000377/REM+700+5R+308+24TB+BSS+HS), for the same price or lower. That gets you a heavy barreled coated rifle with an extremely accurate 5r factory threaded barrel, HS precision stock with alum bedding block, and a tactical bolt knob. That rifle will be good to go out of the box, likely to be super accurate given the track record of the remmy 5r barrels, and you can easily build it up over time given the Remmy aftermarket parts. And you can find a ton of people to work on them. Just me, but that's what I'd do rather than the 308 RPR.

I own the 6.5 CM version and I am still waiting to find a scope for it so haven't shot it. Build quality seems fine and the bolt throw works well, if not as smoothly as my SAKO bolt rifles. I suspect the bolt throw will improve with some shooting. I bought mine to learn how to load and shoot the 6.5 CM round and because the rifle appears to be a really outstanding value.

I have plenty of .308 rifles and wanted something more suited for long range shooting.
