View Full Version : A4 Sling Options
Well, I bought a BCM A4 as an homage to my time in service and in an effort to be as accurate to the original as possible, I am using the standard black sling using the two sling mounts. While this is how I was issued it, it is terrible for modern shooting, classes, etc... I'd like to be able to sling it across my chest and am not interested in any 3 point slings. I have seen the Marines using a sling that has a loop around the rear of the stock. I am not sure how they attach it to the stock, who makes it, what it's called, or if it's worth the time. I am fine with running the front portion through a loop of 550 cord attached to the existing sling swivel unless there is another option. I will not be adding rails or hardware to the weapon.
I searched, but the threads don't show pictures and aren't very relevant. All help is appreciated.

That's the Blackhawk(!) Universal Swift Sling: http://www.blackhawk.com/Products/Long-Gun-Accessories/Long-Gun-Accessories/Tactical-Slings/Universal-Swift-Sling.aspx

Thing is, it's a bit dated as well, since one of the straps has a tendency to lay right over the selector and bolt release during normal use - there have got to be better options out there.
Marines use Vickers slings. BFG makes an adapter that allows you to wrap a loop around the butt stock. Then we had a picatinny sling loop on the front.

OP I would do this, but I guess you can't do a Picatinny front swivel if you're not going to put a rail on it. You were issued an A4 that didn't have a quad rail? I would probably use a universal wire loop for a front swivel.
Also if the rifle has an a2 FSB it should have a sling loop.

That is how it's issued now. Perfect setup.
I'm not sure of the exact iteration. It was basic training. The lower had A2 and 3 stamped on it, but the numbers had asterisks stamped over them, then a 4 stamped without one- like they were updating it each time. It may have said A1 as well- I don't remember. Yes, it had the detachable carry handle, but no rails.
Masakari, thanks a bunch. Now I just need to decide whether or not to get the padded version with metal hardware or just the standard version like you posted. I don't use a pad on the bar when I squat, but it's only $10 more...
Do you all think the universal wire loop adapter is worth the $14, or would you just burn some 550 cord into a loop? I don't want the adapter relaxing or coming loose and wrapping around the FSP or something. Also, where you you loop that adapter? Around the FSP or using the existing sling mount underneath it?
The padded version is nice, but somewhat more bulky. Might be worth the trade-off for you, the USMC doesn't need that because our vest is generally under our sling.
For mounting the sling, check out the other USMC issue item:

If you don't have rails, check out impact weapons components for their A2 handguard sling mounts. Also, QD swivels are my preference, whenever possible. Look into that as an option. The BFG 1" swivels are my favorites.

Also check out the BFG UWL (https://www.blueforcegear.com/universal-wire-loop-uwl-3-25.html), they come in a few versions including QD.
