I'm planning on buliding a 10.5" SBR (whenever my paperwork goes through, that is). I've decided on a single point sling, attaching at the receiver end plate. I've narrowed it down to two different end plates and I can't decide which would be best to use.

I picked up the VLTOR snap hook style. Will I need to be concerned about a metal snap sling scaring my receiver? Is this the most comfortable? Durable?

And I picked up the Daniel Defense Burnsed Loop type. This type seems like there will not be any metal parts to flail about and scar the receiver. But is it less durable? Comfortable?

The issue with the Burnsed loop is if you run the charging handle with the palm of your left hand; it'll get in the way. Also, shooting with the off-hand could be uncomfortable as your index finger rubs the sling mount. Have you considered a QD sling swivel there instead of an HK hook (which, I'll admit, I use) or the Burnsed?

I'm not a big fan of snap hooks..and here is the reason

Absolutely true and valid...which is why you always hook it with the gate AWAY from the weapon. I learned this through many repetitions of a SAW falling on my knees/feet while I marched.

I greatly prefer this receiver endplate sling mount.

Among other things, it allows a single-point sling to do what a single-point sling is good at; fast changes to the support side shoulder. It also stays completely out of the way of the charging handle and doesn't stick out and poke you when slung.

If, for some reason, you can't remove the castle nut, then this is the next best thing.

You can't see it in the picture, but there's a center pushbutton hole on the back that will work just like the DD above.

A big +1 on the Daniel Defense endplate QD attach point.

there are some pics here (http://tacticalyellowvisor.net/8301/54427.html) of a DD endplate and Boonie Packer single point sling in use on one of my SBRs.

Ditto on the Daniel Defense endplate QD. Makes things neat, tidy and leaves a clean profile.

I have the VLTOR. It's a great hook if you stake it correctly. I've got a BlueForceGear single point sling mated with it and it hasn't marred my reciever yet. The BFG sling has a protective sleeve that slides down over the hook if you're worried, but I never do. The VLTOR will experience some marring, but I'm not that worried about it. Pics:

BFG offers 'Mash Clips' which prevent this, 'nuff said.

^^Good demo video. Unfortunately it only proves the fact that the hook in the video is poorly made...not that a hook itself is a bad choice. The hook in the video is much like a carabiner...BFG's hooks are much better made and will not come off as indicated by the video.
