Hey guys, I have decided that I'm going to build my next AR as an SBR and I'm looking for a matching top tier receiver set

I am leaning towards the Mega billet set but wanted to see your opinions.

This SBR will become my go to rifle and so far the specs in my head will be something like this:
Upper
11.5 barrel
10.5 mlok hand guard
SilencerCo brake with Omega 30
Aimpoint t1/t2 w/ bobro mount
DD fixed irons or quality flip ups
Enhanced BCG/ possibly the gem tech
Adjustable gas block

Lower
Geissele SD-C
Vltor-A5h3 or H4
BCM LPK and grip
STR stock or similar
45 degree short throw Ambi safety

I want this rifle to withstand anything I can throw at it.

This was my first build and current AR

Anything in spec will work, and the Aero you're currently running would work just fine if you're running the right safety.

Go with the BAD set if you're really concerned with getting something top notch right out of the gate. I got the email this morning that they just added more lowers.

It just feels "wrong" to tax stamp a $70 lower. Also this one mag release sticks ever so slightly sometimes. Don't know what causes it.

That BAD lowers are nice but never in stock. I'll have to check them out more.

I've had no problem with five of them (Aero) so far, and at the end of the day "in spec" is in spec. They just added more BAD lowers, Noveske lowers seem to be in stock more often, etc... If you want to spend more on a lower to justify the stamp, it's easy to do. Doesn't mean you need to, but that's one mans opinion. It doesn't matter if it's a $70 lower or a $700 lower, I'll build and function test anything before I bother to do the paperwork for a stamp.

What barrel is that?

ALso great point about thoroughly function testing a lower before stamping it.

My piece of shit Aero lower does this too, pisses me off. It's got an ALG lower parts kit in it, so I know it's not that.

Other than that, Good parts list, my go to upper is a Vltor Mur-1a. Many say it's not needed, but I've seen one take a improperly loaded 5.56 round (overcharged) and stay together.

San Tan Tactical and Seekins make nice ambi lowers and the uppers are great as well.

You want top tier, you're gonna pay for it.

Just buy a 6*20, and take off the barrel and sell it. This will leave you with upper, lower, and BCG. Throw on a BCM or similar 11.5" barrel and furniture of choice.

This will save you from building the lower, and will probably end up cheaper, if not, the same price, and easier.

Sorry, but I do not feel Colt is top tier. I want something with more of a wow factor that wasn't from the 90's.

I like all of my noveske lowers. I prefer the gen 1s to the gen 3 I have.

VLTOR has stripped receivers in stock right now, hard to go wrong with anything from them.

I have looked at those as well. Didn't they make the Noveske sets at one time? They seem identical.

But I did go wrong with Vltor, which sucks cause I like the company and their stuff. I bought a complete lower from them. The mag release sticks and gen I/II PMAGs do not drop free. The castle nut staking also sucked. Normally I wouldn't care, I'd just redo it. But with everything else I found it kinda annoying

I have no idea but everything I have read has been very positive and the Ambi aspect part of it is cool.

Colt just not something I'm interested in. A 6920 is awesome for a builder rifle but other then that not a fan. Just personal preference but not a Colt fan.

I think so, those and the rails.

I ended up with a axts and a noveske. The axts is by far the better of the two.

I would get a good ambi lower from san tan or axts or another good ambi company first.

Also, while i think that colt makes the best milspec lower i can't say i would sbr it except to have a collectable for after they go out of business because of their infatuation with being a founding member of the society for creative anachronisms.

Also, consider a KAC ambi gun and sbr it. Or buying a factory sbr.

I would stick with Mega if your going billet. Have a look at their new Megalithic uppers as well. Very nice quality stuff Mega is putting out.
