Last night me and my friend & roommate were shooting our ARs (BCM BFH Midlength and Colt LE6920) at a local outdoor range, with steel targets set up by another company after normal range hours. Besides shooting steel, I also wanted to shoot up my non SHTF ammo and function test mags. I had a mix of PMAGs, USGI Magpul Follower mags, USGI pre-ban black follower mags, Surefire 60, Magpul D60, 1 used black Lancer AWM, and 2 RWB South Korean made PMAG like clones. I got the preban mags, the black Lancer and a Thermold for cheap at a local pawn store. The Thermold didn't even make it to the range; as I was loading the mag, a round popped out. Upon closer inspection, I saw the lips were cracked and starting to bow out which I did not notice before. Good thing I only paid $5 for it lol.

At the range everything was going fine until I used the RWB mags. After 3 or 4 rounds I felt the bolt lock back. Looking in the chamber I see this

Though I saw the bullet pushed back into the case, I ran my friend's cleaning rod down the barrel just in case. With no obstruction, I removed the messed up round from the mag, reinserted the mag and attempted to fire. A round fired but the next one got crushed again. Same thing happened 2 times in a row.

At first I blamed the Freedom Munitions rounds I was using, thinking maybe the bullets weren't properly crimped. After this happened three times in a row I took the rest of the rounds out and loaded them in a preban USGI mag, which worked flawlessly. I then proceeded to get the next RWB to test and same thing happened. After 4 perfectly good rounds ruined I put a USGI Magpul follower mag, a PMAG and a RWB side by side for comparison.

Though it uses an anti-tilt follower as well it looks like it points the rounds low enough to crash into the front of the mag causing the bullet setbacks. I don't understand as I used these same mags before in the same rifle without issue. I got them for cheap hoping they will be good for training mags, and I'm willing to give newer, unproven products a chance. Korea makes some great products like Hyundai, Kia, my Samsung Galaxy S5, but it looks like their magazines are commercial grade junk. Even my Surefire mag didn't fail this time.

Looks like I will stick with PMAGs, Lancers, and USGI with Magpul Followers.

If be concerned about the ammo, but the mag is likely bad too.
