View Full Version : Short length of pull folding stock?

I'd like a folding stock for easier transport but all of them have a LOP that is either too long or way to long. (For 870 style)

I'd like something in the 11-12.5 inch range. (12 inch the ideal)

But I can't find one under 13. None look easily modifiable either.

Choate makes an M4-style folding stock but the adjustable LOP is from 14-17 inches.

Any ideas?

Okay, check and see if that Choate M4 type stock has a mil-spec buffer tube. Pretty sure it does, this is from their ad: The telescoping stock is our M4 stock....

If so simply (LOL) spend another hundred plus bucks and get one of these:

http://vtsupply.com/lwrc-uciw-ultra-compact-stock-ar-15-ar15-collapsible-short.html

There is a picture comparison between the LWRC UCIW and the MAGPUL SLR about 3 posts down on this page from TOS: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_51/411727_LWRC_UCIW_Ultra_Compact_Stock_for_SBR_.html

You might also give this a look - MAGPUL MOE SL-K:

https://www.magpul.com/products/moe-sl-k-carbine-stock-mil-spec

It is shorter than the MOE-SL, there is a comparison picture between it (SL-K) and an SL (mounted on a LAW folder) in this article: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/12/18/magpul-now-shipping-moe-sl-k-stock/

I don't know what your desires are, but it seems to me you could get the LOP down with one of those stocks, obviously the SL-K is going to be cheaper.

While I don't like pistol grip style shotgun stocks, I absolutely hate the fold over type. Depending on your need and desires one of those could be acceptable. I'm sure you've seen these but - ATI makes a copy of the Remington factory over the top folding stock, Choate makes one also. It seems to me that the Choate would be fairley easy to have shortened to your desired LOP by simply cutting a section out of the middle and welding the pieces back together. This would also involve taking off the plastic covering and either painting or recovering the tube.

I'll just end by saying, if you've never shot one of the 'over the top' stocks, I wouldn't even think of buying one until I had, they beat most people to death.

Like I said, don't know what your ideas are beyond transport, but hope this helps.

I called Choate a few weeks ago about their M4 type folding stock. They advised the tube was bigger than AR tubes (I'm sure she meant military and commercial) to support 12 gauge recoil.

So I think I'd need a mount intended to mate an 870 with M4-style stocks, add a hinge, and then a tube and stock. I looked at ACE and I added up over $200 to accomplish this and a lot of screws to loctite. ;)

It would cost about the same to buy the folding metal stock of my choice and have it cut and welded to the desired length. But I'd be looking at the same price.

I don't like pistol grips either, but the Choate one isn't so bad at least.

My only wish was to have the gun easier to transport in a short bag that doesn't scream "longgun".

I think you talked to the wrong person at Choate.

Have you seen this: http://www.riflestock.com/store/do/product/01-09-11 Apparently a standard tube works. That opens up rifle, carbine and pistol tubes. Pistol tubes are the shortest, but don't have the rib to keep the stock from twisting.

So for 103.88 for the folder; and 119.95 for LWRC Ultra Compact http://vtsupply.com/lwrc-uciw-ultra-...ble-short.html

Or, 103.88 for the folder; 39.95 (MSRP) for the MOE SL-K; 5.00 for a castle nut and 30.00 for a buffer tube

There is also this for 110.00 plus 103.88 for the folder - http://star15.com/ultra-lite-stock-entry-length-ar-ul-e.html

Also there is this - http://www.tacticallink.com/Battle-Arms-Development-Lightweight-Stock-For-MilSpec-Receiver-Extension-Black.html - I'd be inclined to buy a pistol length buffer tube, put this on, get everything lined up, clamp it down and pin it.

Either way it looks like you are 180.00 to 210.00

FAB Defense M4 Folding Buttstock for Remington 870 Shotgun

FAB defense is a strike against it. Anyway though it goes down to about 11.5 inches it doesn't fold.

Thanks though, I had not seen this stock.

26 Inf you've given me hope! I didn't know about that 870 adapter!

Now I just have to find out if it's for milspec or commercial tubes and pick a tube.

I'm guessing the distance between the trigger face and and end plate would about 4 1/2 to 5 inches just from looking at the picture.

So I'd need a stock about 7 inches long. It would be nice if that included some kind of padding. It also had to withstand the recoil as does the hinge.

Another concern: Would the tube come back at the proper angle to give a good cheek weld and use the sights?

The Fab defense stock does gold and you can reverse the hinge to fold either way. I have one on my 870 it seems pretty sturdy. It's nice to be able to fold it for transport. I'll take a picture tomorrow. I have their recoil reducing stock on it as well which helps significantly with recoil. There are several different models- some fold some don't.

Mesa Tactical has nice stuff. Too, check out some of Midway USA's stocks.

I'll just have to decide if I want to spend as much on a folding stock as I did the rest of the gun.

Just noticed I never followed up.

I got the Hogue 12 inch LOP stock and love it.
