View Full Version : Winchester Bourbon Whiskey
So I'm in Total Wine, which is the Home Depot of booze stores and see Winchester Bourbon Whiskey. At first I assumed no relationship, but on inspection, the logo and the text was obviously from Winchester firearms. It's apparently a private label for Total Wine and the guy informed me no relationship to Winchester firearms. As Mr Mackey would say "m'kay"
I'd think Winchester owns the image no? You be the judge:

Put that down, pick up a bottle of Eagle Rare. You're welcome.
Don't drink anything in cyrillic.
I learned that the hard way.
It's probably some rebottled BS stuff. Like those knock off shoes you buy at convenience stores.
Total Wines are interesting stores. I think ladt time I went to one I actually saw a Zima. I don't even know if it is still made.

You boys are missing da point. Is that not a blatant rip off of Winchester Firearms logo and text?

Sure looks like it.
Now, getcha some Eagle Rare and enjoy your evening :)
Yes it is. Email it to Winchester if you haven't already.

I can't stand Bourbon Whiskey and have no idea how anyone drinks it.
They either have some connection, or they're gonna sue someone...
Skip the Eagle Rare and get some Blantons (I'll admit, I have both, but the Blantons is better).
You were getting rum weren't you? No shame in it

OK, I'm not calling you a Clinton voter, but it's close...
Bourbon is an amazing spirit, but what on earth do you drink?
Winchester...come on....go for a real gun whiskey....

Would almost make me want to pick up a bottle for the collector sake if they gonna get sued.

Do you know how much I wish I could find that up here? I'd probably buy five bottles on the spot, one to take down to the local gun club to imbibe after slinging some lead.

Step 1: Open bottle.
Step 2: Pour glorious amber liquid into a vessel designed to hold liquids (glass, solo cup, I ain't one to judge.) over ice is optional.
Step 3: Raise vessel containing glorious amber liquid to lips.
Step 4: Open mouth and tip liquid containment vessel back.
Step 5: Let glorious amber liquid sit on your tongue a few seconds to experience all the flavors it has to offer.
Step 6: Swallow
Repeat until happy or you no longer GAF.

One is $30 the other is $55 but they're both made by Buffalo Trace.
I drink infrequently enough that I just have what I like... Cost doesn't bother me. It's not like I'm cracking the Pappy.

Only if it's on sale. It's in the wrong price bracket. Should be about $30-$40, not $60. For the money I'd go with Blanton's over it.

Holy cow. I get it for $37-39 usually
I think it is better than some of the $60-$100 bourbons I've tried

All about the taxes in many places. VA is pretty nuts vs other places I've been. You've got to "mean it" to drink the good stuff here.

Same here. I was just recommending a reasonably priced good bourbon for Will as a starting point.
Have you tried BT's Royal Canadian whiskey? It's pretty damn good compared to Crown.
Cheers :)

I'm not a frequent flyer, but when I do buy Whiskey, it's usually Jack Daniels.
Today I found Class VI has Gentleman Jack for $21.90 for 750 ml's, folks that's $2.00 cheaper than Black label Jack. So as I type away I have a nice glass at my elbow, a bottle on the desk and an empty bottle of Jack Daniels on the edge of my desk that is most likely 100 years old.
I'll try and keep it down to only two glasses tonight, tomorrows a work day.

Gotta know what to buy. Generally if it's sold here it's not bad. Back home is where you gotta watch out for the counterfeit

Gentleman Jack isn't bad, not the greatest, but I like it for being smooth and happily buy it. I get excited if I see it down before $30 a bottle. Generally I get the Woodford Rye, I like the flavor and it sips well, their regular, or Select, whichever they call it I don't find to be $10 a bottle better than regular Jack though.
Most recent pleasant surprise was Jim Bean Black. I honestly can't stand regular Jim, but the Black is extra aged, and I honestly found it to be a more enjoyable whiskey than regular JD.
And this isn't helping, I feel like I need to pour myself a shot to sip while typing.

I agree with you on the black. It is a pretty good choice for the price. Pretty smooth and vanilla notes.
Will. It looks like Winchester logo to me. Im curios if they paid to be able to use it for the bottle or if they just stole it.

Nah, rum not a favorite but I'd drink it over whisky I'll admit. Had some killer mojito's while on last trip to Panama made by a Cuban bartender who...well...never mind. I like good vodka or tequila.
OK, I'm not calling you a Clinton voter, but it's close...

Vodka or tequila if it's "on" or beer and wine when keeping it within reason is the typical stuff for me. Good brandy once in a while.

So far, it appears they just stole it.
Bookers or Knob Creek single barrel. Neat old boy.
Seriously though, I think the op has rip off written all over it.

Clearly. I was informed there was no connection. I said "that's the Winchester logo rifle in hand and all" and dude seems nonplussed.

Winchester slaps it's name on all kinds of stuff. I have crappy knives from them, a flask, and some other stuff. I wonder if the liquor store dude was just wrong.

God I love Blanton's. However, One day in my life I will get a bottle of Pappy.

I'll have to look. I have an empty and a second almost empty bottle at the house I'm going to use for bookends. I am going to fill them each with .22 shells for weight. I thought it would be kinda different...

Makers 46 and Makers Mark are what I keep in stock most of the time. If not one of the Makers it will be either Woodford Reserve or Bookers. Pour a couple of ounces over ice, sight back and relax. Finishes off the day right.

Possible for sure.
Anyone like basil haydens? I was suprised by how much I like it.
I'm working through some elijah Craig right now and its very good as well.
Like them both. Elijah Craig Single Barrel is very good!!

Blanton's is great stuff. It's just difficult to find here in DFW, or at least it has been for me. It's never on the shelf at Total Wine..

Doc,
Found the Flag! LOL! Feel like a dumbass for not seeing it before!
My better half and I just killed my second bottle. Only have a couple drinks a week so it takes a while. But really like supporting these guys and their whiskey is excellent, so it's a definite win-win if it's available in your AOR...

Dear God!
Why light beer?
I mean, I love Shiner's Blonde as much as the next guy, but with a nice whiskey, I don't think i need a chaser, and if I did, well there are much nicer options from Shiner that aren't light beers.
I'd think Winchester owns the image no? You be the judge:
Yes, and they can license it.... at one time RACOR ( filtration for marine use ) used ( paid for ) Popeye the Sailor Man.
OK, I'm not calling you a Clinton voter, but it's close...

He just moved from MA... culture shock.
Eagle Rare is the best inexpensive I've ever had. Hard to believe how good it is.
I feel the same way about Deep Eddy flavored vodkas. Unbelievable quality.
I like good vodka
Titos or Russian Standard
Deep Eddy for a flavor treat. Unbelievably true to the stated flavor.
OR... REYKA -- it's either my imagination or it really does taste like drinking a glacier.
Party - Russian Standard
Personal - REYKA neet... or Titos anyway you desire.
Anybody like Plymouth Gin? reminds me of the gin counterpart to REYKA
Flavor treat - Deep Eddy

LOL!!! I am the farthest guy from a beer snob that you can find. It's a bit north of 90 degrees here and I enjoy a cool beer to chase my stogie! My typical beer is Lone Star! I like to stick with Texas products when possible.
I've traveled all over the world...drank Euro beers, Euro wines, Asian liquors, yada yada yada. At the end of the day, I'm perfectly happy with Jim Beam Black and a cold Miller High Life!
So I'm happy supporting veteran owned and local folks, and ultimately, it's all about good conversation, a decent, mellow buzz and a relaxing evening out on the back patio, watching the deer walk by..l
