I have a guy with a DPMS 308 model AP4 with the collapsible stock. He wants to put a fixed stock on it.

My understanding is the the standard A2 RET (buffer tube) will work fine but he needs a special spring and buffer for the 308.

I have not worked on or am not familiar with the DPMS or any brand 308 AR in terms of parts.

Any info on this would be great

Thanks
Chad

Man, you want any info? There's too much info out there...

I thought I had a handle on it then I went surfing...

Buffer tube/buffer info on Stoner-type .308/7.62 Nato rifles is confusing (Bet you thought I was gonna say AR10 didn't ya?) and makes my head hurt...

will the stock assembly fit for a 308? I want to do the same thing but I thought that I have to find a 308 buffer tube, buffer and spring.

The rifle length tubes are the same with different springs and buffers so A2 type stocks will fit (the difference on the PRS, for example, is the cheek comb thingy due to the longer charging handle)

CAR type stocks is a different matter.

...CAR type stocks is a different matter...

Off topic, but FYI I did verify w/DPMS that their .223 and .308 AP-4 carbines use the same extension tube ( part no. cs-09-ap4 ). Diff spring & buffer. What it means for me is I can use a LMT M4 buttstock I have on my 308 DPMS carbine build w/their buffer and spring.

A guy named Clint (heavybuffers) on the other site sells a buffer that works with standard CAR extensions. I'm about ready to order some stuff from him.

That's the ones we carry for the large caliber AR guys. He also makes buffers for 9mm ARs and .45 ARs.

Here's his chart:
