I'm somewhat surprised that Israel doesn't make their own equivalent weapon. Maybe it's cheaper just to buy them from us?

Israel has a foreign military allowance, on the orders of millions of dollars, that they can spend (other countries like Egypt also have this). This is where all the M4s, F-16s, F-15s and so on come from. It's funded by the American government and the caveat is that it has to be spent in the US. In effect indirect subsidisation of the American defense industry through foreign military purchases. That's why a lot of the time they just buy American instead of developing their own.
