Thomas Paine would not have defended religion at all. He would have advocated for the right to practice whatever you want though.

He went on about our founding fathers and religion, which is baloney, many were agnostic(about as close to atheists as it got then.)

Thomas Paine is a freedom lover who would not vote at all in this election, he'd be starting a revolution.
