View Full Version : 512 fit over standard handguards?

Today I sold my Bushmaster 20" post-ban rifle that had a removeable carry handle. I was robbing the carry handle for use with my SDI 16" middy. Now my 16" middy is bare.

I was thinking of getting a 512 and a BUIS. My 16" middy has standard handguards, and they do sit slightly higher than the upper. Probably around 1/16" to 3/32" of an inch higher, but certainly less than 1/8" inch. I'm assuming I will need to put the 512 over the handguard in order for the BUIS to fit and for my fingers to be able to reach the buttons on the back. Will the 512 fit over the handguard?

I have a standard F marked FSB. Do I want to set up the 512 with an absolute co-witness or 1/3 co-witness? Which BUIS will provide that? I'm still undecided on which BUIS, but I like the idea of the ARMS 40L or 40LP. I'd like something nice and low, because I'll probably also get a scope with an AD-Recon mount and don't want to have to remove the BUIS in order swap back and forth between the scope and Eotech.

Thanks.

OK, I've learned a little bit since I posted this yesterday. I've realized that a 512 without a riser will give absolute co-witness. I will need the Larue riser or the YHM riser shown HERE (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/YHM-220-EOTech-Riser-p/yhm%20220%20eotech%20riser.htm) in order to get a lower 1/3 co-witness. I wonder if American Defense Mfg will be releasing an EOTech mount. I'm a wuss and don't want to "burnish" my rail. :o Hey, at least I admit it. I've also made a decision on the rear BUIS. I plan on going with the MI SPLP.

EOTech 512 on LaRue mount.

It clears the handguards, gives lower 1/3 cowitness, and there is no burnishing. :)
