This course is designed to give participants a solid introduction to winter backcountry travel in a safe environment. It consists of an online learning component leading up to the event, 2 nights of cabin / bunkhouse lodging and all meals at Camp Como (nestled on the north edge of South Park at 10,000ft), hands on skills classes, and a day trip integrating lessons from all of the coursework.

Distance Curriculum:
• Video - natural pace
• Video - intro to land navigation
• Video - intro to clothing systems
• Video - winter clothing
• Video - winter day pack
• Video - winter locomotion
• Video - hand tools
• Video - fire building and maintenance
Hands on Curriculum:
• Gear shakedown
• Land navigation
• Expedient Shelters
• Route selection
• Efficient movement
• Hand tools and fire building
• Snowshoe day trip (snowshoes provided)

Logistics:
Como Colorado is an hour and a half from both the Denver and Colorado Springs airports. Arrive by noon on Friday (lunch provided), with classes Friday afternoon, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning. Breakfast is provided Sunday morning, and we will be fully finished by 11am Sunday.
