Thread rules:

1. YOU have to be the one who took the picture.
2. Post no more than ONE picture a day. That keeps things clean, and it won't turn into a spamfest.
3. Make the picture one you are proud of, not a generic picture. Post your best shots!
4. Keep it workplace friendly please. Pictures of pretty people are fine, but common sense prevails. If in doubt, don't post it.
5. Tell us why you like it.
6. If you want a critique on an image you post, make sure you post that you want feedback, otherwise don't expect to hear anything other than oooooo's, and ahhhhhh's.

ETA- Title change to make it more clear that only one pic a day is posted, or Stick will be a big fat meany and delete all pics after the first one. The reason is that I don't want this to turn into a thread where someone shows up and dumps a million crappy pictures into the thread. By keeping it to one picture a day, people are forced to choose and post, which means we all end up seeing quality pictures. Hopefully the title change makes it a bit easier as the thread gets longer.

I like this one because it reminds me of Mt Rainier, which is where it was taken.

Picture I took on a hike the other day with my dog Dakota. Not the greatest picture (took it with my phone) but thought it was a good shot of her while we took a rest on some rocks.

Picture represents some of my favorite things in life. A good dog and the outdoors.

Always a favorite when I run across it.

This is my aunt trying to take my photo in the the passenger mirror, but I snapped mine before she did. It was completely impromptu, and taken with a camera that has atrocious quality at even a moderately high ISO, but it's a favorite because it's kind of a snapshot, and kind of a story. This was on a day trip through the blue ridge mountains several summers ago, and the cooler, darker tone completely captured the entire vibe of the blue ridge mtns. That might not come through for anyone else, but just scanning through my files, this one gets my attention every single time, and I know exactly where it was taken. There was no processing done to this one.

I always liked this shot not just because of the lucky alignment, but that it isn't the typical Pacific Ocean-scape.

Grand Teton National Park, at Colter Bay.

This was my second attempt at capturing the night sky, because the previous night's results were underexposed. This was the most vivid night sky I'd ever seen and attempted to capture it. I remember walking 1/8 mile through a trail in the woods (at night) to get to this location, which was a little unnerving due to the slight possibility of grizzly bears. No kidding, a man was killed 2 days before less than an hour away. I was traveling light, so had no tripod. I used a log and some rocks near the water's edge to hold up the camera. What a fun trip and beautiful part of the country.

Taken off a private pier on Amelia island. It was the last time I went fishing with my father in law before he died. Looking back at it, the clouds were starting to block the sun before sunset, just like his mind went before dying.

I know nothing about photography and took it with a cell phone.

One of my favorite photos I've taken, in was a foggy day and it made for of of my favorite photos I've take, I believe I used a iPhone 4 for this picture years ago. I just wish that street sign couldn't be seen. This was in my front yard in Oracle, AZ, this is the fence that fell apart that I hadn't gotten the chance to repair at the time the photo was taken.

That's a nice one. I can smell the desert in this photo. For those non AZ people, once in your life you need to smell the Sonoran or Chihuahan desert when it rains. I can't describe it. Creosote bushes that on a dry day are completely odorless, but if you just breathe on them for an instant, the humidity in your breath makes them smell like a herb. So when it rains, the whole desert smells like this, combined with the rain smell. Plants and animals spring to life. Pretty neat.

Here's one that I like - I'm in it, but I did take it. I did what I do quite a bit - composed the shot on a tripod; and had my wife as a stand-in to focus on. Set the timer, and ran out to where she was, while she came back :)

The setting was absolutely beautiful - a dry lake bed, and I could see for miles. The clouds cast shadows on the ground which made the landscape more interesting. I just enjoyed being out there under the open sky surrounded by incredible landscape, with my wife and son. Brings back good memories.

Inspired by some of the rifle crate coffee tables I saw around the interwebs, I decided to build my own. This was a quick shot taken with a Nikon D3000 inside of the crate I built last year. It now sits in my office as a convenient place to store my shooting gear. I often use this one as my wallpaper at work, since there aren't any firearms/ammunition present in the photo to offend the soft-hearted.

This is not a good photo but it means a lot to me as it catches the essence of my daughter - focused and determined - as she wins the hurdles at a middle school track meet several years ago. Shot with a Canon EOS T3 on the Athletic burst setting.

McPhaul Bridge near Yuma, AZ.

I grew up watching old westerns with my dad, so when we started coming out to Yuma to visit my grandparents (who wintered there from central California) I was naturally drawn to the area. In fact I liked the southwest so much I began my career in southern AZ. I went back to Yuma for training a few months back and while I was there hit a few of my old stomping grounds, including the abandoned McPhaul Bridge.

The #45 FLMS Porsche 997 GT3 RSR (Pat Long driving) from the 2012 Sebring 12 Hours:

Taken with a D300 and 70-300 lens going into the braking zone for Turn 10.

I like this photo, even though it's a far cry from the work of the better motorsports photographers, because of a few reasons
1) It was my first time shooting with my (new to me) DSLR at the race, I've still got a lot to learn
2) My Sebring pictures tend to take me to my "happy place"
3) It was my first decent snap with a blurred foreground/background without everything being a blur.

I love the stance - she looks like a lioness about to pounce. I recall all the blood, sweat, and money I put into her to get her ready for track use. Just a cell phone shot...I don't know anything about lighting, I just try to frame and orient what I find an interesting subject.

This one I like because of the stark red/white contrast, and the Cyrillic dial.

Critique away. [emoji846]

Honestly a lot of that is done via post processing now. Pictures that are close can be dialed in pretty easy with a variety of software. The much harder part is getting composition and subject matter right, and you certainly did.

Do you mind if I post your picture darkened up just a tiny bit?

I was just going for a distressed, watercolory, type effect. It looks a lot darker here. On my screen the water has some of that gulf stream green in it and the yellows are more orange

I took this one in Coos Bay Oregon from a little over a mile away - on the other side of a waterway. This was a 30 second or so exposure (can't remember exactly) and the water was flowing which gave a nice effect.

For whatever reason, I am drawn to flowers. My Aunt was looking at some of my pics and she commented that my Grandfather (her Father) was also into taking pics of flowers. So it must run in the family.

Can't do just one, sorry. All of these are from work, but three different cameras. First up is a pic of a 737 heading over the Rockies out of DEN taken with an early digital P&S (don't even remember the make/model, but I remember it was only 3.2MP). I love the snow blowing off the peak in the background as the sun sets:

EXTRA PICS DELETED BY STICK

Not sure why you couldn't, but I helped you out and cleaned it up. Like I posted, if there is more than one picture I will have to cull the additional images. It is the only way to keep this thread from becoming a pic dump site or spammed with bulk images. One picture a day, pick the one you like best for the day and post it up.

Yeah, they do, when I first looked at it I thought it was tilt-shift. It still kinda looks tilt-shift but more in focus. It looks foggy or hazy, I wonder if the haze could have somehow been acting like an additional lens. Google that term. They make lenses that do it or you can do it in photoshop. I've actually seen people actually hold a lens in front a camera body.. ie. lens not connected to body. It really does have that toyish look.

Right click the image in Tumblr,
'copy image location'
here on M4C click the image icon
Then click URL tab
Uncheck 'reference locally'
Paste in the address spot.
Then just click ok or whatever the button says.

I don't know what makes the images re-size. I think the forum software does that automatically.

There may be a faster way, but I'm not sure what it is.

Big Papi doing his thing. Getting the ball truly on the bat is tough. These days I'll get two or three per game, but when I took this it was pure luck when it happened.

The photo isn't perfect, I wound up getting robbed a few days prior and was using a backup body and a 70-200. At the time I didn't care, but looking at it now I really wish I had some long glass to compress it. Especially in Fenway where the photo wells are practically in the outfield.

Venice Beach, CA. Must have been 2004 or 2005 with a Sanyo flip phone.

I am not a photographer but I always liked this picture. I now own a D7000 (bought used off an M4C member) but I still don't know how to use it outside of auto. Even came with a "prime" lens that lives on it now since all we do is take pictures of the goofballs. I didn't know what a prime lens was, but it came with the camera.

There is a local photographer hosting a "Moms Only" photography class. $200 a person and it filled it up quickly. The course is designed to teach moms how to use their DSLRs, what the hell the functions do etc. I bought it for my wife and told her she would need to get me up to speed. Maybe something to think about for you photographers, there is money to be made since a lot of people have DSLRs now.

Great thread BTW, wish I would have found it earlier.

Not to discount the knife which I really like, but you could have just taken a picture of the piece of wood. Do you know what sort of finish is on that slab? Is it Mahogany?
