The search term you're missing is Dissipator. Originated by Bushmaster.

Had an old Spikes that was mid gas with a rifle length front sight. Was pretty great. Nowadays, everyone seems to make one. PSA has theirs on black friday pricing i think.

Assumption is the mother of all screw ups. Unless the barrel has a correct contour for the FSB to be mounted properly, you can't simply do it.

Spikes tactical makes a nice one.its a midlength dissipator with a pencil barrel. Aim surplus sells the upper. My hands down favorite ar.
